#77205, "Which will cost more???"

I have 2 options, I can

1) Buy a new front bumper from Mitsu for $275, primered
or
2) buy a used front bumper, painted black, for $175ish(shipped) and have it repainted my color?

Does it cost more to have to change the color of a car??? Or will that be the same?

TIA

With it being primed and ready to paint, it will probably cost more to have the paint sanded down and primed and repaint.

Most shops will tell you that they have to primmer it again. I think they are talking out of their asses and just want to charge you more.

Yeah, when its primed, it has already been presanded and smoothened out below the primed layer. When you recieve it primed, all the shop needs to do is, wetsand it and paint it. So your better off getting the primed bumper.

Get a new bumper and have it actually primed becuase when it says primed and ready to paint, there is just a paintable finish on the bumper i've come to find out. But when you get it sprayed you'll have to have it blended with the rest of the car so it doesnt stick out becuase YES your paint HAS faded.
If you go with an already painted bumper, you go with and already painted chipped 80k miles of driving bumper thatll need to be sanded paint yada yada.
If youre in the boston area, word is fellow DSMer suburbanstyles has a shop who maybe can give you a deal.

IF ALL ELSE FAILS........CALL SHOPS AND ASK, not one, but many

GOODLUCK

buy the bumper for $175...sand it your self and take off all the paint n whatnot...take it to the shop where all they have to do is sand some finishing touches, prime it, and paint it. It's gonna cost the same to get it painted either way...so save the $100 bucks. Most shops do not want other people prepping stuff, they do things a certain way to keep their quality level the way they want it.

damn, only 275 for a bumper from satan? i was quoted 350 bux!
each has their good points and bad points

new bumper
PRO: you know its new, no damage, better condition
CON: well, its $100 more than the used one, and thats without paint

used bumper
PRO: its 100 bux cheaper
CON: it has to be shipped....no matter how good the owner took care of it...there will be scratches on it as well as bug guts and chips and all manner of shit that needs to be stripped. and believe me...sanding is shit work. iv been working on my sideskirts for a while which are pretty nicked up on the bottoms...and its a fuckign PAINT...much less the curves and size of a front bumper...oh ya, then theres paint. also, the possibility of tears in the urethane that would need to be fixed.

If the used bumper isn't terrible a shop that you take it too probably WON'T prime it and they will just scuff or possible wetsand that bumper paint it. either way it gets wetsanded and painted and i doubt it will be much difference in price.

Dammit Optikal, everytime you post it makes me want to shave my handles.

Anyway, I have decided against the used bumper. The place I'm going to will not paint over a used bumper because they cannot warranty their work that way, and after they do all the sanding and stuff like that, the price works out in the wash. I'm getting a brand spankin one for around $250. And painted for another $200ish.

Yippie, can't wait to get all this shit done.

Dammit Optikal, your car is sex on wheels. I fuckin' love it!!!
