I did ~1/2 my interior way back when(got tired after a lot of work), over 2 years ago now EZ... anyways, it's perfect... no flaking or anything like that. Not sticky when hot & paint on door jam stays on door, not dash.

Anyways, I've gotsta take my door apart 2 replace my busted up door handle & am inspired 2 redo it all over again... this time the entire car, Bcause I also have 2 replace my fallen headliner.

First things 1st, after going over my notes from B4 the 1st time I did this & getting current w/ the subject... I'm definately gonna go all SEM this time. I originally went w/ Krylon Flat Black (I know Krylon, I think flat) & it loox just about stock, a tiny bit shiny, & a more Xpensive brand silver (don't remember) & either Krylon or Rustoleum Semi? Clear cloat. I've got Xtra cans @ home regardless, but I'm gonna give SEM a whirl.

SOoooooooooooooooooooo....... what would U peeps recommend?

1.) Just lightly sand old paint job, & go from there as if it weren't painted (ie. still use the plastic prep).

2.) Work like a bitch using a rough sponge or the like w/ a sh*t load of Paint Thinner & water pressure spray.

3.) F*ck SEM & just continue where I left off, spending the time 2 retouch etc. (Chucking the interior out the window so 2 speak isn't really an option)

Observations:

1.) Interior Paint Job HATES watches (me) & diamond rings/jewelry (wiffle), ugh... more careful in single motion of opening door now. Lots of scratches/gouges in the process of learning... lots of crying 2 :'(

2.) Interior has a tendency 2 TRAP dirt 4 all eternity, not EZ 2 clean... my scoop behind door handle is very, very dirty... same w/ trim around radio.

Anyways, rather than doing the whole touch up routine, I mayse well put in a lil more effort & just redo the thing from scratch. I'm not so sure that Paint Thinner is gonna take off the paint after so long, although a pressure sprayer might help a lil bit... so I'm guessing my only alternative short of throwing it out the window is 2 sand the gouges even w/ surroundings, prep, & paint using SEM.

I say sand it down clean with acetone and have a shop paint it with car paint and car clear.

Has no one came out with a better solution than painting? It's too bad no one makes these plastic parts in flat black, eh?

While I'm not gonna enjoy redoing my car after 2, probably close 2 3x years (Xterior paint would last 4ever)... I'm a bit price conscious & haven't got a ton 2 spend on this. If I remember correctly, I'd like 2 say me & my buddy painted 1/2 of our cars, = 1 full car lol... I know, 4 around $70 total. I'd imagine a paint shop would charge me a coup hundred 2 do the entire interior... even w/ me sanding, cleaning, and handing them a bunch of pieces already taken out. I say I'd imagine cause I really don't know.

1x of the reasons Y it took me so long 2 paint, was Bcause I spent an Xtraordinary amount of time taping things off. Xamples: I've got RS manual panels & taped of & painted what's normally the Vinyl insert silver, VERY difficult, kept wanting 2 tear along lines when removing tape... I also taped out the entire insides of the flip up cup holder & left stock black while painting top... same w/ ash tray. I think the latter was a good move, cause my buddy Sam didn't (aka was lazy) & U can tell a tiny bit where cups have left their mark.

Anyways, if U or some1 else has got an idea of what it'd run, I'd B interested... otherwise, C'ms out of my ball park.

Also, any1 know the likelihood of Thinner taking off the 2+ years of dried paint? Or am I pressing my luck & just need 2 sand?
