Ive heard alot of different storys and stuff from friends about how rims can slow you down. I have a pretty much stock 96 RS besides spark plugs and a AEM CAI and right now its sitting on the stock wheels and Ive been thinking about getting 18''

So I was wondering how much they would slow me down. Any information I would appreicate alot, thanks guys.

depends largely upon the rims weight...you want very little rotational mass around that wheel hub. The less, the better. I don't know exact numbers on how bad they will slow you down, but i know its a decent amount.

Like buck said...it is a decent amount and it depends on the rim itself as well. When I went from my 17" katana concept 7's rims to my current 18" Excel rims....I noticed a big difference. The rims I have now weight a ton.

They will slow you down a bit. My brothers keep giving me shit about wanting to get some 19's, but I DONT race on the street so I dont think that it will be too big a deal. If you do race or are aggressive on the street, then I would suggest somthing smaller and lightweight.

LOL...yeah right.

Keep in mind as well though that even though you are increasing the mass of the wheel by going up in size you are decreasing the tire mass. Of course this does not always apply with certain combos.

Just because the rim size is going up does not mean it is going to slow you down.

I think konig subzeros are pretty light weight and look pretty sweet imo.

Ummm as far as rim sites go...I always go with wheelmax.com for the simple fact that they have rim/tire packages with free mounting and balancing and free shipping. I have ordered 2 sets of rims from them so far and I receive the rims 2 days after I order them. Plus the prices are really great as well. I sound like a freakin Wheelmax represenative.

Anyway I hope you find a set you like.

Look here... this is where I got my wheels. light weight, decent prices, and look great imo.

www.revwheels.com

I have the REV Model II's in hypersilver (17.2 lbs - pretty good for 9-spoke rims). I actually bought them here (http://www.speedandstyle.com/index_main.htm) for $799 with z-rated tires, lugs, etc.

Anyone know anyone who can help me tune this in the Pittsburgh area (Greensburg)?

how good are the tires that come with packages on wheelmax.com Did you upgrade yours or anything or just do a package and how do they handle?

motegi just came out with a new line of TrakLite rims, very lightweight i think the 17's weight somewheres around 14lbs. unless ur made of money and buy some Volk's.... those usually run mad light. just are damn expensive. the motegi's look sick imo. i want em!! if any1 has them yet and wanna trade :-P get at me

been awhile.

You have to be kidding, i am the first to post this rule of thumb?

When dealing with rotating mass, every ten pounds of rotating mass equals 100lbs that the motor "Sees". For every 100lbs you get close to 1/10th off your 1/4 mile time. Of course the 1/4 time is not in concrete depending on mods ect, but the 10-100lbs is real and a fact.
