#71991, "Predator Hood question????"
May-11-04 06:35 AM by hunntyr

I am planning on purchasing the predator hood however I was wondering if anyone has one on their vehicle with a HRC stage 2 kit. I want to get one for my car but everywhere I am reading states that it doesnt fit turbo models. Now I am not sure if that means the actual GST/GSX's or any car with a turbo. I haven't purchased the turbo yet but that is what my plans are when I get enough cash but I dont want a little hood issue stopping me. Any help is appreciated and TIA

also could you paint carbon fiber and have it come out well???

i had a predator hood and i drove in the rain without problems. with an hrc kit it will fitunder the hood but your turbo is going to get wet and your exhaust manifold could crack. ill trade you a c/f hood for a predator emoji

Thanks for the offer but I havent even purchased either one yet. I am set on going with the predator hood but my concern was fitting the turbo when I get it under there. You did bring up a concern with the rain though. I will probably fabricate something to keep water out.

there was a member on here who did it....his name was CYAN...You will have to worry about rain so you will have to plug up at least one vent. If you poaint carbon fiber, you are painted its gel coat...so yeah thats all good...Jus make sure you do it right....painted CF can either look really good...or come out really horrible IMO.

I got the predator hood on mine and I've been thinking up ways to plug the 6 vents, but still not sure how...

you could get some plexi pieces and finagle em in there...perhapse some silicone sealant around the edges....may want to hook up some sort of drainage so water wouldn't pool up in teh vents either.

it'd be neat (though expensive) to make something electronically controlled that covers the appropriate vents from under the hood when it's raining. then you'd still have the cooling benefits of the extra vents when its not raining.

all you'd really need is a sheet of metal attached either to the underside of the hood or the engine bay. i think it'd be easiest mounted to the underside of the hood. it's be kinda like a window that slides over the vents in such away that when rain enters from the top it's directed to away from the turbo and mani. not too sure how much space you have to work with though. oh well i thought that would be neat. prolly impractical though...

Great suggestions all of you....For those that do have the hood or have had the hood before, could you tell me where the vents actually line up?? From what it looks like the 3 bigger ones seem to be going over where the valve cover, air intake and Timing belt cover are. Is that right??? I know the 3 smaller ones are where the manifold is. I have a couple of cheap ideas that would work to protect the motor from rain but I kinda need the dimensions. If anyone can tell me where these vents actually line up and let me know the H x W x L of the vents I could possible do something. TIA
