I am in the process as you read this doing my interior bright red, like the outside of my car...what i did was really, really easy....After you pop out everything...NO SANDING, i shot a thin coat of clear acrylic ($2.49 @ k-mart each a can)...and only waited 5 minutes, while still kinda wet and damp, and shot my first coat of bright red high gloss over everything. This wet mix of clear coat and first coat of paint makes it set in REAL good. I know because I messed up my fog light panel near my door and I couldn't scrape most of it off! I had to go get sand paper and use a damn steak knife to literally pry the paint off and start over! emoji So now, I been driving dashless all week, everyday shooting a THICK coat of bright red acrylic paint over all the pieces each day...before I go to bed I shoot a THIN coat of dull red primer...I was starting to lose hope, cause I was getting that shitty-ass "mist" look on most of the pieces....TONIGHT I shot another thick coat of bright red, as usual, in my daily routine coming home from work all this week....but I finally decided to shoot a ton of THICK coats of clear coat acrylic over all the pieces...so thick in fact the paint looked whitish...2 hours later, the clear was setting and turning it's clear natural state....I am looking at the pieces right now in front of me and it is soooo shiny and nice looking, the pieces all almost look like metal! I can literally see my reflection in them now! I can't wait to shoot my final last application of clear coat acrylic tommorowz and put all the peices in Saturday morning. It looks absolutely FANTASTIC! Trust me, I found all this out by accident, and it looks amazing! Good luck and I hope this helped! I will get pics as soon as possible...until next time.

Total cost so far...$20 for 5 cans of clear, 5 cans of dull red primer, and 5 cans of Bright Red.

Parts painted...
a/c controls
cup holder console (taped the inside though, thinking long-term)
main console covering around radio/cubbyhole
arm rest/cupholder piece in front of back seat/sides of frnt seat
door handle panels behind door handles
a/c vents inside door on side of dash (taped the vents over though, once again - long term effects, aging)
sunroof panel console (just the little pop out piece)
fog light insert panel (the one i fucked up...hehe)

good luck!

heck yeah i used almost the same technique as you did on my door vents and the part behind the handle...i still need to pull them off again cause i didnt go driving doorless but anyways i need to pull them off again and repaint them. but yeah i used a can of stuff from wallmart that is called plastic primer...basically clear acrylic. after it semi dried i shot some krylon high gloss black on it and it came out pretty good for only 1 coat. i should probably do about 4-6 coats total and 1 or 2 of the krylon high gloss clear. those are some nice pics of the shinyness hehhehehe
