I wanna make the letters on my Talon's tail lights light up, and I know someone tried it at some point because I remember reading the thread, problem is I can't find it now. Anyway, if the person that did that is still around (can't remember who, sorry) and could give me some pointers, that'd kick ass. And also, how much of a pain in the ass is it to remove the tail lights? Does the rear bumper or anything have to come off?

The tails are very easy to remove. The bumper doesnt have to come off, but the interior panels do. Also, its a pain in the ass to get that section separated to put lights under it. Also, are you planning on lighting up just the letters or the whole thing? If its just the letters then its possible, but if you want the whole thing GOOD LUCK! I took it apart and trust me its not as easy as it sounds. The letters have paint on the back and there isnt much room to work with. I got sidetracked and mine has been sitting there for a while. I had the same idea at one point.

Nah, I just want the letters. I'm gonna stain the whole tail piece darker red, then put some neons or something behind the letters so they light up at night. If I can pull if off, I truly think it might be badass

I need to do version 2.0 on this. The center tail piece comes out easy enough, but separating the lens from the backing is tricky. If you want the letters to light evenly, you'll have to figure a way to either remove the OEM tag lights (illegal) or block them from shining back up into the trim and turning your red letters back into amber.
I just went to see if I had any of the pics still hosted, but I just took them all down this past week. There is some hacking to be done with the back half of the center section imo. I used 2 8" long mini red neons and got decent results. You could expirament with LEDs imo, but you would have to consider how to aim them properly for the letters to light fully. I liked the neon route since they flood the area with light.
So, some basics...
1 - pull the center section 2 - use a slotted screwdriver to carefully separate the snap tabs of the lens from the black, back half. If some break, don't sweat it. You'll have to seal it up with RTV to keep water out in the end anyways. 3 - figure out your power supply. I spliced the 2 tag lights together off one lead and used the other for my neons. The tag lights are dimmer, but the neons come on with the parking lights this way. Might be better to see about doing this inside the car to save room behind the unit 4 - remove paint from both sides of letters (inside and out) and then paint the negative areas (where you don't want light showing) with a sold like balck or silver 5 - figure out your lighting preference (neon vs LED) 6 - test light 7 - reassemble 8 - stun and amaze imo
Hit me up sometime if you got any more questions. I can get the pics back up here in the next couple days for sure.

Ask and ye shall receive imo. I should have version 2 done and fully lit before the shootout. If you're rolling up on the convoy in the dark and you see a Talon lit up like this, it's me. I think Dino is the only other person on here with a lit center piece and Big Evil is an Eclipse, so...
What's that smell? Oh. It's 56k! LOL
This write up assumes you can figure out how to separate the colored lens from the back piece (that is, carefully, with a screwdriver and patience. You can break a few tabs as you will want to seal the perimiter with silicone for moisture repellance). Just take your time and try not to fuck it up too badly and you'll be fine.

Actually, it's pronounced "TA'on." I was so pissed when I saw the L totally unlit. It's because the back piece comes right up to the back of the lens there and allows no light to shine. I have my plans to hack the back completely out up there and custom fab something simple to accept the lighting I want. It will work and people will ooh and ahh over it imo.

Have you ever thought about those neon wirez things. I am not sure how bright they are, but they are smaller and can maneuver in the space better I would imagine.
