#68861, "HELP! Can't close sunroof !"

Alright Guys... I am hitting the "panic button" here in the forum.

My sunroof has always worked flawlessly up until tonight. I've been trying to close the emoji sunroof for about 1 1/2 hour now and honetsly I am loosing my patience. When I try to close the sunroof it seems to work fine; that is, until it reaches about 2 inches from closing when all of the sudden...it starts opening by itself all the way to the back!
I've tried almost everything!!! I checked the rails to make sure they weren't dirty or that something was obstructing them, I checked the fuses, I disconnected the battery a couple of times just in case (which I'm clueless of why I tried that emoji)
I also took off the sunroof "door" to make sure that wasn't jamming the sunroof, and I even asked nicely to 'it' to PLEASE! emoji close (but that didn't work either) and finally and in case some of you are wondering, YES! I also tried doing a 'Search' on it here!

I really need your assistance on this one guys... Any of you guys know what might be going on ?

TIA

CY1

Chances are you either broke one or both of those little plastic tabs that appear half way down on the rail the sunroof slides on (there's one on each side). When you go to close it, from the inside of the car, try to press up on the rail and guide it over that spot(s), it should close.

You may be able to get those tabs from the dealership, if not then a junkyard.

Hey Joel Thanks for the help Bro'! I just gaved up on this thing! I've been trying to close the damn thing like for the past 4 hours and nada... no luck closing it! emoji
All I can do right now is hope that my ride will be out there tomorrow when I look out the window. I took all my stuff out of my car and just left the 'roof open. I tried checking what you said that it might be broken but everything seems fine. The only plastic thing broken is that thing that sticks out to the sides that is supposed to slide the door/hatch/cover-whatever-is-called along with the sunroof itself; but that thing broke on me about 2 years ago so I always have to open the door/hatch/cover-whatever-is-called manually and then open the sunroof. Other than that everything else seemed just fine. Although, I suspect that the problem is coming from the left side of the sunroof. I have no idea what happened but I'll have to buy a set of those hex-star screwdrivers and dissasemble the sunroof tomorrow to see what the emoji is wrong with it... that is; assuming my car will be out there tomorrow morning !

But hey Thanxs a lot Joel! (WickedESi) emoji
I appreciate it !

Later guys...

mine does that all the time. slowly close the sunroof till you see the front part isnt sliding but the pushers are still moving (back arms) on mine it clogues on the passengers side. what i did was get a hammer and screw driver and tap the side that wont budge.

i also can fix it byclosing it until i can tell the front is caught and the back has moved alittle bit. then get out of the car and tug towards the passengers front. like i said im not sure what side yours is getting stuck on but thats how mine is.

as for what caused mine, do not drive drunk with your head out the sunroof

The tabs I was talking about are on the rail that is built into the roof that the sunroof slides on. You can see them while your inside the car looking at the rails, they are about half way down. When the sunroof closes it tends to get stuck in those groves if they arn't perfectly flat (meaning the little tab is missed up) but you can press up on the guide as it's closing and it will go over and not auto shut.

Hopefully I made a little more sense that time.

If i had a digi cam I would take pictures of the problem.

Wazzup Guys! OK, so here is an update... I tried following the advice you guys gave me (WickedESi & chrysler kid's --Thank You Guys!--) but I still had the problem so... Yesterday I took apart the whole sunroof and I think the problem is that one of the "wire"cables that slides the sunroof back and forth is somehow stuck from the inside of one of the rails (driver's side rail ). I suspect that's the problem since I could detach the passenger's side rail from the cable, but I can't detach the driver's side one since I can't see the end of the cable that comes from inside the rail... Oh Boy! I hope I am making sense here emoji

Anyway... I'm assuming that those wire-cables come from the sunroof motor, right?? So... where is the sunroof motor? I want to see if I can take out that wire-cable completely so I can pull out the rail... Yesterday I tried pulling it out but the space of cable between the rail and the actual roof is kinda short (and I didn't want to pull the rail itself worried that it might break since most of it seems to be plastic...) Is it possible to detach the cable from the sunroof motor? This is driving me crazy!
Honestly - I'm about to follow BuckNutty's advice! I would rather follow it than to take the car serviced into satan! And to add some icing on the cake, This morning as I was driving to work it started rainning... so I had to turn back and on my way home SOMEHOW my alternator belt broke! I think my car is starting to fall apart !!!
I've had it!!! I can't hack it anymore !!!
