ok, I know exactly what I want for my car interior, but I don't know how to actually get it... I have a 95 Eclipse RS, and I want to paint some of the interior panels on my center console (the pieces of plastic that surround the center vents, fan/AC/heat buttons) The problem is that the plastic panels have a sort of texture to it, and I want the panels to be as smooth as possible. Is there a way to make the panels smoother without buying a whole dash kit? and since i'm gonna paint it anyway even if i can't get the texture out of it, what is the best paint to use that's relatively cheap? I'm on a budget, so I don't want to spend too much on paint.


the plan for my interior is this: i'm gonna have a couple white strobes and a couple blacklights mounted inside my car. Since the color white is blacklight reflective, it will glow blue when it's dark, and when the strobes go on, the white light cancels out the blacklight effect and it'll look normal white. So the white panels in my car will "change" color from neon blue to white with the strobes going on/off. It'll be trippy! Yeah, so if anybody can help me get started by answering my question, it'd be appreciated.

I don't know about the strobe light idea, but I like the idea of the smooth finish on the trim I've thought about doing that, but I haven't done it myslef.

I would suggest sanding it with 120 grit sandpaper and then covering it with body filler and smoothing that out, then painting it. Just an idea. Post some pictures if you do it.

really no need to sand...just make sure you put some good coats of high gloss paint on it and that will help smooth it out. i used 2000 grit to sand all the smooth parts and paint...as far as the vents go i used wiped it all off with rubbing alcohol to get off all the gloss and then just put about 4-5 coats on...wet sanding each coat a little with the 2000 grit sand paper. anyways use krylon...but only for the plastic shit. you can revinyl the doors where it is vinyl. i used high gloss black for 4-5 coats on the vents and the part behind the door handle and then after i got it how i wanted finished with a coat of high gloss clear. looks killer!
