I got a crack in my front left headlight and it fogs up and when it rains i cant see shit. So i was trying to remove it the other day and i couldnt get it out. The housing is the only part that is cracked , the bulb is good. How do you get the housing off? Do you have to remove the front bumper.
there is a bolt on the bottom side of headlight, the easiest way to get to it is by removing the bumper. you dont have to pull it off all the way just enough to get to the bolt. there is a way to get to bolt by forcing your socket between the light and the bumper but i was unsuccessful in getting it this way.
By the time you got enough movement in the bumper, you might as well just take it off. Anyway, to get the housing off you must put the headlight in the oven at about 300* for maybe 15 min. Then you have to pry off all those metal clips around the light. After you get the clips off you have to pry the housing from the main body, They are stuck together with some sticky glue. It might have cooled off by then so you might have to heat it up a couple times.
when i painted my headlights, we baked them at 350 for 5-7 minutes. i think 15 is way too long but i could be wrong. when you put them back together makesure you get a good seal or you will have the fogging problem again. i think we took the clips off before baking also
^^^ Those are the instructions that I went by when I took my headlights apart a couple of months ago.
