#63, "Turning a RS into a GS...."

Ok besides the sway bars and stuff. I want to make my silver RS look like a GS. I hate the black door handles and no side skirts. I dont think it will be too hard to find silver mirrors around.

1) How much do you think it would cost to get my black door handles painted silver, or if that isnt possible..How much are they from the dealers.

2) I dont think it will be too terribly hard to find some side skirts and door caps for sale, but how hard is it to put them on my car? I know there is a little drilling aparently. I will probably just have a shop do it for me. But how hard/much would that be.

3) How hard is it to put on new mirrors.

Please reply to this!!!
Thanks!!

also, a GS has power mirrors and the plastic on the doors inside the car is "softer touch" stuff, the RS has hard plastic which looks the same but feels completly different, and I know my car has no padding underneath the carpet, not sure if the GS has any, but I know 1st gen AWDs have padding under the carpet, that might be something else to check, if you really want to bother

dont replace the black parts, just get them painted. you could get the mirrors and door handles painted for about $100. no more than $200. also if you are converting completely to a GS and dont already have these, you would have to upgrade the stereo, power options, add a rear hatch cover, rear spoiler, rear wiper, fog lights, alloy wheels (i got mine for sale if you want) and convert the rear drum brakes to rotors.

I have almost all the stuff you said except for wiper and foglights. I actually just bought some chrome GS-T wheels and tires for $500. Is it even possible to put a rear wiper on. That would be pretty handy in North Dakota. Do the GS fogs hook up easy to an RS?

You can get Pilot motorsports factory look a-like fog lights. I bought them and love em. Got them for $100 at coolwheels.com

You'll need the power antenna, split rear seat, floor mats, and I think cargo net to complete the transformation. (If you really want to bother)

I think my RS actually has all those options. Not sure, I bought it used about 4 months ago. I have power everything, cargo net, floor mats (I dont know if they are real factory ones or not, doesn't say eclipse or anything on it), and CD and what not. I dont have ABS although I dont think it was actually an option on the RS models. What other option couldnt the RS get that the GS could?

Sorry if I was misinformed, I've just never seen a GS without those options. Therefore I assumed that they were standard.

I just priced painting and installing side skirts at about $275. I forgot to ask how much to paint the door handles and mirrors, which I want to do also. I can't imagine it would be more than $200 to paint handles and mirrors.

If you can find a pair the color you are looking for you should be able to swap them. Should save some money this way.

yes all six 2nd-gen trim levels use the same door handles, they just dont spend the money to paint the RS and BASE model ones.

Does anyone have a picture of their RS with side skirts on. Also some places have kits for 95-97, but that still works for 98 and 99's right?

The factory side skirts are different between 95-96 and 97-99. They slightly changed the side skirts when they changed the front end.

#87, "Adding fog lights to a RS"
In response to Reply # 0

I just did this mod on turkey day and it was retevally easy.

1. If you want it to look like a GS on the inside then you have to get the fog light switch from satan (it cost me about 30 bucks), then I went to a junkyard and found a 96 venge that had the same switch right after I bought mine so I have a extra one that I am willing to sell and I know it works cause I tried it out. E-mail me and I will give you a price.

2. The wiring harness is already there inside the dash you have one for cruise, one for the fogs and one for power mirrors. the one for the fog lights is the very small one.

3. The actual wiring plug that comes from the fog lights to a another plug on the car are not located on our cars. I had to cut the wires comming out of the fog light and make my own hook ups. The wires on the inside on the main power switch had to be cut also to be connected to the fog lights.

It was very easy and it only took maybe 20 min to do in total (that includes bolt on and everything.) Since I had a aftermarket front end (but i sold it), I found it alot easier taking the old front end off and installing the lights.

You have a gramet hole that comes out from under the dash on the passanger side so it is easy to run wires though it. If anyone wants me to take some pics and turn it in to Juan let me know and I will do it.

Like I said the install is very easy to do and it doesnt take long at all.

Hope this helps out a little (I know I am not the worlds best explainer on stuff so sorry)

Just get APC M3 style mirrors. They look better and you can get them and the door handles painted and installed for around $200.
