What kind of paint do you guys suggest I use on wheels? I know painting them isn't the best choice, but it's the cheapest and I have a very limited budget, so have you guys(or know anybody who has) painted your wheels? How did they turn out, and what did you use? Thanks.

Ok.. this is going to be VERY ghetto.. do this at your own risk heh.. but it works as it's how my friend sprayed his rims.. it may only hold up for a few months though. I notice you have less than stellar rims so I guess it can't hurt to paint them. laf.

1. Take off wheels, spray em off to get the dirt/dust off
EDIT: mask off any sections you don't want painted/sanded
2. Rough up rims with 800 grit sandpaper so primer can stick, then remove masking tape
3. Clean rims well - strong soap/water, then rinse, repeat if necessary, then rubbing alcohol
4. Masking tape - tape off any section you don't want sprayed, then cover tires with newspaper or something
4. Spray primer.. bout 1-2 coats, wait 30 mins-2 hours
5. Spray paint.. 3-4 coats - bout 20-30 mins between each coat
6. Let dry, wetsand using 1000 or 1500 grit
7. Spray clearcoat - 2-3 coats should be fine.
8. Let dry completely
9. Wet sand using 1500 or 2000grit

As to what type of paint and primer... heh can't remember what he used.. I think it was just regular automotive spray paint from WalMart. Again, this is a very ghetto way of doing things heh. If you want it done right, get your rims powdercoated.. it lasts longer and looks way nicer. This may or may not last that long as well, cuz rock chips tend to chip the paint.

Good luck. emoji

when i did mine i just took some carb cleaner and sprayed them nice and cleaned them good, got steel wool and cleaned them again, then washed them w/soap and water...

i kept them on the car the whole time and just draped off the car, then i used some black primer 2 coats.

then once that dried i spayed 4 coats of hi-temp black... it worked fine for 4-6 months not sure anymore...

also they have wheel paint at auto stores, we will be doing my girl's wheels soon, a gun metal grey color, and a clear coat.
