So my car is being painted again where the black moliding is at on both sides of the door. Now when they painted it the first time they didnt take off the molding, they just left it on and taped around it...so now all the paint is chipping off so now they are painting it (they are also fixing their drip marks that were all over the car) So they call me up and tell me that if they take off the molding it will break so they will charge me for that...I was like whatever. So do you guys know anything about that...will it break if you try to take it off? If not, im gonna have them paint my doors again, and if it breakd, make them pay for it...thanks for the info.
I just finished painting my car, and I had no problem removing the window jams. The inside one just snaps into place with no screws or anything. You'll have to fight with it a little bit because it's in there pretty tight, but it won't break, just make sure you close the window, and the outside one has 2 screws, one in the back you can see when the window is down. I think after you remove the inside piece you can access that one. The other I believe is in front of the mirror. I can't remember if you specifically need to remove the mirror for the outside jam or not. But if you do there are only 3 screws holding it in. One holds the plastic cover in place and the other 2 hold in the mirror. Pop off the plastic cover and you'll see. The outside jam is also clipped in and will be about as hard to remove as the inside one once the screws are out. Sounds like your getting screwed. If they said that the piece will break they don't know what the f**k they're doing and they're not very careful. Every car that gets painted has window jams. Does that mean that every car needs new ones when painted... I don't think so. Why would our cars be any different. Go somewhere else and have it done right.
If they're going to take off the window jams, you may as well take out the door handles too and have the door completely done right. There are only 2 bolts that hold the handles on, and 2 clips. One clip for the locks and another for the handle itself. Lemme know if you have any other questions. Good luck.

Most paint places do NOT take off those black plastic jam things except for the ones on the roof of some cars. For our cars, if they do tape if right, and snand it down rigght, the paint should stay on perfectly. That's how mine is painted and its been fine for one and a half years now...
