i been wanting to switch my labor, time consuming roll up yourself windows and locks to electric... how hard is it actually? can i buy gs/gst door skins, get the electrical peices, and hook it all up to do it? and if so, how hard would it be?

or is there some other kind of way, like aftermarket or something?

I'm really not sure if the whole RS to GS/GST/GSX window has been done yet. I bought my car from a kid who had some place(won't mention places) put a kit conversion in it. It's been the MOST PITA thing ever to come to the car. I've had nothing but problems. If you are just hell bound on not using the forearms anymore, then I think there is a kit that some of the guys/gals use here that is pretty decent. Somebody will probably post behind this with the name.

Shit is all apart. Typical...

that'd be me an a couple others that have installed a SPAL power window kit. very happy with the results. installation is not that complicated. the hardest part will be running the wires from the doors into the car so you can hookup the power and the switches. once you get power windows you'll wonder how you ever lived without them.

oh yea just do a search for power windows or SPAL. there's a couple threads with lotsa info and some install pics to help you with mounting the motors in the door. best of luck!

i kept my RS skins. the crank gets removed but the hole is still there. it's kinda neat b/c you can see the spindle thing inside spinning whenever you operate the windows.

YOu get unniversal plugs with the SPAL kit to put in the hole. SPAL also makes unniversal door lock kits. Go on ebay and search for SPAL.

About a year ago I bought a SPAL power window kit but no switches. I have been lazy and never even installed it just opened the box looked at it and was like How trhe fuck does this open the window??!! Once I had my int. door panel off and I put the thing on the motor while my friend held it there I touches the wires to the battery, it was the coolest shit man. They are SMOOTH and fast too, faster than stock. The window goes up and down Quick.
A couple months ago I got in an accident where my left foor got Royaly FuckEd so I was looking for doors, (i wasnt about to buy on from satan for $900). I found a kid selling BOTH doors complete with glass, handles, power window motor and locks ALL for $200 near my house. So I swooped on that. the car has been in the shop since tuesday. they are putting em in so the swap is easy, all the wiring is already there. But you know what, I like the SPAL kit better, I wish I could make it use the SPAL motor but why fuck w/ stock, plus the mechanism is completely different. Well now I have an expensive ass SPAL kit I have no idea what to do with, and 2 door handles, and 2 peices of glass. ok thats all, sorry long winded

For the door locks you can also simply buy two actuators off eBay for 5 dollars apiece and hook them up to the door handle lever, and simply but some switches at radio shack. Or you could do a shaved door handle kit so that you wouldn't even have to open youre door manualy, you can just press a button on a remote. For my SPAL power window kit I traced a template of the switch on to the door panels and cut out the holes w/ a dremel. Looks like its stock and I love it.

hey has anyone had experience with both the standard kit and the deluxe kit? i know the deluxe has some extra stuff and is specifically made to provide more torque but i was kinda thinking that maybe that torque sacrifices some speed. i've only used the deluxe kit on my car and it doesn't seem very fast. it's not slow or anything but i wouldn't call it fast. anyways just wonderin for those of you with the standard kits...

haha maybe i should've bought a standard kit to compare when i blew one've my motors instead of buying another deluxe kit... emoji

Delux kit is designed to operate heavy windows. Our windows aren't that heavy. Should've gone with standard.

yea i know but you get the manual crank w/ the deluxe. which actually saved my ass when i was having some wiring issues awhile back and really couldn't get the windows up any other way (short of removing the panels and putting back the stock crank).

but yea anyone know if there is a difference in speed between the two?
