As long as you can find a color match it would work. It would stick better than the paint. Most people around here had to get there's repainted within a year, because the paint didn't stick. With the vinyl you would have to take off the eclipse letters. If you wanted to put new ones on they are like 30$ from Mitsu.

If their paint didn't stuck, they must not have prepped the surface good enough. Even Maaco paint jobs will stick if prepped and painted right. I've had mine for about one and a half years painted PPG magenta gray pearl with no prob...

hey eclipse804, how did you do it and where did you go? I have the same color as you and I want to color that center piece. I thought it would be hard to match our color? You tell me what you did...much appreciated

I had it painted at the body shop that I work for, because they do really good custom paint using all PPG materials. We just used PPG paint after sanding it down nice and smooth, and it has stayed on without even a scratch for about 1.5 years. I'm amazed myself since sometimes when I use the key to open the trunk, I'll miss the keyhole and hit the painted part, but it hasn't really scratched off or anything. The shop also blended my doors and fenders perfectly, so if you go to a professional body shop, they should be able to do it...to paint that middle piece would be probably 100 bucks at most. More like around 50 if you had other stuff done at the same time...
