so i been getting this sour smell in my car and i decided to investigate. first thing i noticed was that my floor mat on the passenger side was drenched, along with the carpet underneath it. then i put my hand under the passenger seat, and got a handful of water. it goes pretty much all the way back to the rear seat. i pulled up the carpet by the rear seat and theres a good bit of water under there. tomorrow im going to take the seat out and vaccuum that shit up and see if it comes back. i dont know what could have caused this. it hasnt rained since saturday or maybe sunday morning. i dont think anyone has been in the passenger side since then to roll down the window or anything. however, last week, i was dropping my friend off at his apartment and my car scraped a speed bump as i went over it. i looked under the car on that side, and didnt see any real damage. i did see maybe a little tear in some silicone(?) thats under there. anyone else experienced this?

Umm I also have been getting that. I dont know how but... it only does it if it rains and my car is not moving. It doesn't seem to leak when I am driving.

I replace the carpet and when I did, their are little plugs behind the seat passenger and also in front of the passenger's seat. I pulled the plug so it can drain out if it where to ever happen again. The plug is an inch diameter and you can see the ground from within the car when you pull the plug.
I would also have water in my hatch, where the spare tire rest at, and I pulled the plug from there too. I think the water gets in my car is because I haven't sealed my stock spoiler holes and it just leaks around and then ending up in the passenger side.

Good luck figuring it out. I bought a car cover and put it over when ever its going to rain at night when I am not driving my car. As of right now my car is in storage so nothing to worry about right now.

yeah there are rubber tub stoppers at various locations along the floor that go directly to outside. also i would remove your spare tire and check for water under there. it might be that your ac compressor is leaking water into your passengers cabin

so you pulled the plugs? does that keep the water from coming back in? i would think it would get in if you drove and it rained. i also have water in the spare tire well. i think its because i ran over a curb once and it ripped up the bottom of the well. also, i took out all the stuff that the spare tire mounts in to so i dont know if its just not sealed right anymore. but this is pissing me off

is it water or antifreeze? heater core could have broken a hose or cracked but then it would be leaking antifreeze, not water i believe.

well when i rung the carpet out, the water was brown. isnt antifreeze green? it had water consistency and didnt really smell except for the sour carpet

i found my leak and fixed it when i took my rear bumper off and found that the plastic vent that no one knows what it's for is bubbled out so i sealed it and the leaks stopped. i also sealed around my rear hatch glass and had no probs with it.

like i said pull the plugs and let it drain for a day or two. im pretty sure its your a/c not heater.

You know, you guys just solved a mystery for me too. My girlfriend told me the other day that "Water just dripped on her feet" and I told her she was out of her mind. Wasn't raining and the windows were up. Guess the A/C system is going bad. What do I do to fix that?

Real easy fix. Under the front, against the firewall there is a drain hose that lets the water that has collected from condensation drain. It should be in the center somewhere. Mine did the same thing. Waht happened was the "A/C drain hose was plugged". thats what the dealership told me. when I would turn a corner water would blow out of the vents on the floor. Cost me $35 to have un plugged so I can't imagine it is that hard.

if it was the heater core, the heat would stop working, right? it fired up fine this morning, real hot. but there was condensation on the inside of the window on the passenger side. i guess thats from the damp carpet? i might have pics up later

i have the exact same prob (except i haven't checked the spare tire well cuz i have my subs there and i dont feel like moving them off the little board) and i haven't used my a/c in weeks.. what the hell? i already fixed the leak in my sun roof (it would drip water on me when i would rain) so i dont know where it's coming from.

No offense but that sounds like the heater core to me. Mine was defiantly not the core. when I woudl turn a corner and the fan was on, I would hear the blower motor turnign in water and it would spit it out the vents onto my feet. Nothing o nthe window. I could see how thats possible because the water tends to build up near the blwoer motor.

may not be the heater core. you could have had condensation on the windows because of the difference in cabin temperature vs. outside temps.

heater cores just dump water/antifreeze out without notice. it also dumps water on the outside of your car.. this same issue happened to my VW passat. the rear pass. side floor would be damp after a heavy rain. its probably something thats clogged up more so than the heater core or something major.
