mind you this is a LOT of pics, but i thought i'd share all that I have done to this car, it took a lot of sweat, and plenty of blood (really) to do this, and many many many breaks!!! I also had to repaint bumpers (for those who noticed that i masked the bumpers), shop gave me wrong color, as you can see in the difference between the final pic, and my sig pic!!!! (BIG DIFFERENCE)

We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires and movie gods and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. you know the best thing? it was ALL ME!!!!

i did the primer and half the basecoat on the body (metal panels) and my neighbor did the other half the basecoat, and the clear.... i did everything on the bumpers a week later. all the clear had to be sanded down flat, and buffed out, it doesn't shine, it fuckin' GLOWS!!!!

i offered to give my neighbor a gift certificate to home depot to say thanks for all his help with the painting and buffing, he said no and gave me a Snap-On clock (they don't make them anymore) instead!!!!

all the bodywork was me, but one third to a half of the paint job, he deserves the credit, props to him for the buffing, but guess who was stuck with all of the wet sanding to get rid of all that orange peel (yeah me, the clear wouldn't lay down right, but the bumpers did becasuse i didn't follow directions)

thanks

to all of you that want to do that, it is very hard.... (bodywork that is) painting is the easiest part, but i used two different spray guns, one cheap one for primer (primer is known for fucking up guns), and a $350 one for paint and clear (both my neighbors)....

prep work is a bitch, wet sanding the whole car beforehand, then if the clear doesn't lay down flat (like mine didn't) you gotta wet sand the whole car again!!! but with 800, then 1500 grit, then you gotta buff it, (the whole sanding and buffing process took a week!)

i'm lucky because my neighbor used to do bodywork and professional painting for a long time, and he helped me make the car look the way it does now, LOUD!!! the color turns heads, very flashy, the pics come a little close to the real color, but you gotta see it in person, beautiful

I am really impressed by the quality of the paint job. One question though, if you went through all that work, why didn't you go overtop showy with the car, like for example painting it orange, blue, or yellow. I like red, if I were to paint my car, I'd get candy red. Also why didn't you paint the door handles or the top of the car red, instead of leaving it black.
But like I said before, the car's paint looks to perfection. I wish I could do that. You can come help me paint my car and I will put every exterior mod on your car that you need. Suspension, body kit, and anything else that you need. I live in Springfield, IL and go to school at SIU. Where in IL are you located at? Your looks good so far, are you going to add anything else to it?

thanks for the compliment, but i love the red/black scheme, i DID want to paint the door handles, but my dad was yelling at me for that, so i left them black. the color now is Radiant Fire Red, so it has 5-10% orange thrown in there. not totally stock, i like the factory look because i want a total sleeper in the future.

I live in Woodstock, but I go to school at Eastern Illinois in Charleston.

i'd say i'd paint your car for ya, but prep work SUCKS!!! that and i'd need a garage, two paint guns, (a cheap one for primer, and a really nice expensive one for color/clear) an air compressor (at least 30 gallons) i can paint and all, but i don't have much experiance with the high speed buffer (kind of important), because my neighbor did that and he learned how to properly use it on thousands of cars that were not his. but i've also learned that you can cheat in the mixing of the clearcoat, so buffing may not be needed (that is if you use PPG Concept clearcoat)

Dude you are the man. Totally understand when you bitch about prep work. You should hang around this section more often and share your knowledge emoji People should realize that bodywork isn't impossible just time consuming.

Well I know its not impossible, but just have no knowledge of what to do and how to do it. I have a garage with all the tools and a 30 gallon air compressor. I have friends that go to Eastern Il as well. I understand their is alot of work needed to be done to paint a car and I rather I do all the work. I wouldn't make you do anything, unless it was some sort of skill. Otherwise, I like doing the work myself, easy to learn and gain experience that way. Maybe someday along we could meet up and talk about painting my car or making money of some off my friends' cars. Their are tons of people I know around central IL that want to paint body kits or their whole car.

How much are supplies for this sort of job range in? And yes I rather use ppg clearcoat

stick with one brand for EVERYTHING when painting!!!!! i CANNOT stress that enough!!!!!! oh, my neighbors sprayers, about $150 for the crappy primer one, and about $350 for the paint one!

for me, i'd say i spent about $50 in sandpaper/scuffpads (borrowed blocks and squeegee from neighbor)..... total for all paint (chemicals, basecoat 2qts, clear 1gal, reducer, hardner, flex-agent, non-sanding primer 2qts, and whatever i forgot) about $700-750.!!!

i also got red, the most expensive color, Radiant Fire Red to be exact, i also used all PPG products, except for the primer, which was Painters Pride. I used PPG Deltron for the basecoat, (Deltron is THE polyurathane enamel), and PPG Concept clearcoat.... Deltron happens to be the most expensive type of paint (next to the dupont equivilant which is about the same price).

shooting the car doesn't take that long, but all of the prep work sucks, gotta wet sand out all of the factory orange peel (scuff the bumpers because that paint is different) etc.

(I WON'T BUFF THE CAR, i don't have the experience behind a high-speed buffer) if you find someone who wants to do that, buy some 3M Finess-it Finishing material, and some Meguiars (step seven) show car glaze.

one hint to those who feel like painting, for the edges in masking the car, use electrical tape!!! cleaner sharper edge, and no mess. masking tape over that......

if you wanna talk to me, my AIM is reddsm420A and my email is dsmkrazy@hotmail.com if i'm here i'll respond
