#55482, "What size tires for 17" wheels?"

I buying new 17" rims and tires this week. Should I go with 205/40/17 for $600 or 215/45/17 for $650?

215's, wider is better!

Edit: Plus it will only make your speedo off by 0.6 mph @ 60mph. The 205s are way smaller.

I had 205 40 and it was like riding just on the rim, I cringed at every bump hoping they wouldn't crack. I went to 225 40, huge tires, but the ride quality is so much better, smooth and the bumps aren't at all bad... so I def say go 215...50 bucks is nothing for the headache of a cracked rim

Going from 205 to 225 isn't going to reduce your chances of a bent rim, that is refering to the width of the tire. You are still on 40 series tires so your risk is actually the same even though you feel the better ride.

Anyway though, it's all about contact patch...go bigger, you'll feel the security in your handling. And think of it this way, 50 bucks across the four is only like an extra $12 bones a tire emoji later...
