#55295, "CF Hood Install - '99 GS w/ Sparco Hood Pins - Any Advice? Tricks?"

I'm getting ready to install a carbon fiber hood I got off ebay (just as soon as the summbish gets here). It's a brand new VIS, the kind that's shaped just like stock.

I've been listening to the pros and cons of hood pins, and I've basically decided to go with them so I don't lose a windshield or kill anybody. Far worth losing the "clean" look to me.

I was just wondering from anyone who's given a go at this before if there's anything I should look out for, any tricks I should know, or anything I should be careful of while putting on this new VIS hood and Sparco hood pins on my 99 GS. I appreciate your help and time.

Take your time with the pins. Put some grease or something on the studs for the pins and shut the hood so they make a mark. Now drill a small guide hole from teh bottom of the hood through to the top. Then increase the sizes of the bits, drilling from the top of the hood to the bottom now. Reason to drill top to bottom is not push all the debris outwards to where you will see it. Reason to slowly increse the sizes is to not crack the CF and so you can determine the sizes as you go. Better to start too small then too big. Thats about all the advice i can give ya though. Good luck emoji

same here, I have a vis hood with the sparco pins. Take your time with those pins. The rectangular tips are alot less forgiving than the bullet tips. Also I Mounted mine towards the outside of the hood and I like it out there a little better than the inside. Youll have to cut some of the bolt length off though to clear the headlights if you mount them on the outside though.

Good luck
