Ok, I have removed the stock steering wheel and the clockspring (I think thats what its called). There are 5 wires going into and out of the clockspring:

Two white wires for the airbag
Blue and Black/white wire for the cruise control
Green/red wire for the horn

I have the Momo hub that has a ground wire in it. I connected the ground wire from the hub to the horn button, and a wire from the horn button to the green/red wire, similar to this picture:

Alas, horn doesnt work. What am I doing wrong?

hello-
ITs a bitch. If you look at the back of your momo hub you will notice a copper looking circular area that goes all the way around the hub. This is what the wire from the ground on the horn button actually connects to. So even though you have the wires hooked up correctly to the horn button and to the hub, the ground from the hub to the car is not connected. What I had to do was to use the ground from the car and use a spring/paperclip contraption that actually makes contact with the copper plate. This allows the steering wheel to rotate and yet still make contact with the ground. Does that make sense?

I will take some pics of my setup tomorrow if I remember to.

Hit me up on IM if you have any other questions. I can try and help walk you through it.

-Chris b.

P.S. dont forget to yank your gauge cluster and remove the bulb for the SRS unless you want that dirty little secret reminding you everytime you drive the car.

So my problem is that the horn is not grounded? If I ran a wire from the back of the horn button to any ground spot it should work? I dont care if the wires are showing for now since Im going to try and fiberglass around the steering column covers to completely hide the hub.

My bad... I got it backwards. On my momo setup the ground makes contact with the steering wheel which makes contact with the hub which makes contact with the frame of the body hence a ground. It is the power wire that needs to rub on the back. I dont know what I was thinking haha, the horn should ground out through the hub.
The problem with just running wires directly is they will have to be really long since they will wrap around the column from lock to lock as you turn the wheel.

What you said the first time makes more sense to me. I dont think the copper ring on the back is contacting anything so I dont think the horn is grounded. After I removed the clockspring, I ran a wire from the end of the green/red wire to the Momo horn button so I dont think that can be the problem. Im going to try and run another wire from the ground tab of the horn button to a point on the frame and see if that does it.

That is a Porsche, but not mine. I was looking for install write ups on the net and came across that pic.

Heres some pics i found of when i installed the steering wheel. I have since changed the design and use a spring/paperclip to rub on the back of the hub.

IM me if you don't understand the pics!!

So your horn button is grounded at the hub? I ran a wire from the end of the green/red wire through the rubber boot right to the horn button, and grounded the horn button to the hub and it didnt work. I really need to take a course in circuits or something. Any more advice?

OK, so the problem was the ground. I ran a wire from the horn button to a good ground point and the horn works. The problem now is wiring everything in a way that the wires dont get pulled when the wheel is turned all the way to the right or left.

There is a ground point on the Momo hub, but it doesnt work. Just for a test, I ran a wire from the ground terminal of the horn button to one of the bolts on the center console and it worked. Im not sure about the 1g wheel, are there any tabs or terminals on it that you can run wires from? The Momo horn button has a power and a ground tab just like in the picture above which makes it easy.

What do you plan to do about the lack of clockspring with your 1g wheel? Im looking for some innovative wiring ideas.

theres only one little tab and it had a red wire when i got it. i assume its power, but theres no other tabs. let me take some detailed pics

about the clockspring...i guess im just going to run a long wire and rig it some way so that it works when i turn
