A clock spring if for your airbag. ARe you getting the SRS light? YOu'll also find it called a spiral cable alot of times. IT just connects the steering column to the airbag.

The clock spring is a device that has a sensor that makes the final determination on whether or not the airbags fire. Once the clockspring activates the SRS system, both bags blow. That is why both bags blow at the same time.

soooo....if i took it out the airbag will not fire? on either side? if so is there any way to fake the sensor out with a resistor so the passenger side airbag will still be operational even though i do not have the driver's side airbag in?
thanks

I work in a scrap yard and have pulled hmm mabye 700 or 800 air bag systems out or almost any car you can think of. the clock spring is full of spiral wire that gives slack when the wheel is being turned so it dont bind the wire. it dont give the command to set off the bags thats the job of the air bag computer which is mounted under the console.
