#51300, "starting bodywork, have paint idea, input please"

like the thing says, i'm starting bodywork this weekend and when i'm done i'm gonna paint the whole car myself (minus roof, that stay black)

my paint idea is the stock red (anybody know the name of it?) i'd say about 95% that, and 5% orange thrown in it, and it would be a metallic flake paint. i like the sound of it, does anybody have a pic or something that would resemble what i'm describing?

and with our paint do you need clearcoat, because i know some paints dont. yes, i'm doing it ALL myself

yours looks relatively easy, i've got a lot of dents to fill in... since my mom took the liberty of backing into my car (twice) my parents are paying for (and my dad is helping me with) all of the bodywork and paint. all done at home too, shops out here suck, i'm doing it myself

To quote yourself
"no, it's not harder than it looks"

i've done it to my old car, and in about a month i'm repainting the talon myself, clearcoat is the hard part, just make sure you keep the gun perpendicular to the surface you are painting

Anyhow, one way to have the metallic look to your stock red is to add an House of Kolor "ice pearl", it'll give your car that slight pearl tint to it while the mini flakes give it that shimmering effect. As for the clearcoat, it depends on what type of paint your going to use. If you're going with a base & clear, of course you're going to need a clearcoat (DOH) emojihowever if you're going with a single stage or an enamel than it all comes in one handy package (base and clear together, MAACO uses alot of single stage), but I really wouldn't recommend doing the single stage as it looks kind of cheap and the durability isn't usually long.

Don't have the stock Eclipse anymore
Just a stock Gsr now, emoji

stock red is a lot brighter, and only like 5% orange will be added to the entire paint can/mixture so it's not an orange car, just a *hint* of orange to it.
