I just finished makin an intake for soon to be rally crx ( just a pos that will be fun to break) and im wondering if i can make one for my car that will hold up. The crx isnt starting right now so i dont know how well the intake will do but its made of some rubber fittings that fit on the throttle body and increase in diameter to fit on a 3' air filter. its help together by clamps, liquid rubber, and tight fitting. part of it is PVC piping----will the pvc piping hold up under high temps? if it will im prolly gonna make on for my car, 30 bucks compared to 100 dollars for an intake sounds to good to pass up

A KC guy, OZ_GS, made a PVC intake after he sold his AEM CAI and his homemade one looks WAY better than the AEM piece. Hopefully he sees this post and will post a pic of it. He said he did it w/ time and fiberglass and he couldn't tell a performance diff between the AEM and his homemade.

"once upon a time" lol, yea i auctually had a pvc cai for my car, it looked horrable and i was told that when the pvc heats up that it has a vapor that is harmfull to the engine, not that the section that was pvc auctually got hot, but for precautionarry measures i replaced it with one i got from a guy on the board here, he got it from ebay cheap he said.

this was my setup: i used the black air duct that was attached to the stock air box, and extended it with pvc. i used one long piece of pvc to go down to the fender, and 2 right angle pieces of pvc to attach to the stock air duct and to angle the intake to the fender well. then attached a filter to it down there..

I don't know if is a great idea to do a pvc cai, i'd rather have something that looks 100% better and wolnt' hurt the engine... check ebay their not too much for a generic one

I would say that it is a toss up w/ PVC but there is a plastic that is heat resistant. It's been a long day and I can't remember the name of it, but it might be in a search.

ABS plastic is the heat resistant one

i just got one off good old ebay for my buddy for 47 shipped (cai chrome) can't beat that, 20' install and it does the job fine

e-bay is the way to go, just make sure there is a gap in between the intake tube and throttle body inside the fitting to reduce the heat transfer.
