#46605, "probably already asked or said but..."

I have a feeling that this might have be brought up already, and I used the search, but didn't really know what it fell under. Anyways, I know there are write-ups about how to change the color of the lights for the HVAC, and the cluster. It came to me today when I taking apart my cluster this afternoon to do the mod. Under the templates, they are all clear. And it seems to me that the orginal lights behind the the cluster used that clear plastic to transfer its self around. Fiber optics. Well... wouldn't it be possible and a hell of a lot cheaper than spending $3.99 per LED. Well.. my idea is to use the bulbs that we can use in the foot wells.. you know.. those courtesy/dome lights that you can buy in diff colors. Well.. what if you just strung a few of those together like christmas lights and places them strategically under the clear plastic parts. Then you could run the wires out the back and tap into a pwersource and setup a relay to work only when you turn the lights on. Wouldn't this be alot cheaper? And it should solve the problem of "spotting", and would be alot brighter to IMO. I duno.. after taking my cluster apart I thought of it once I finished sanding the templates. Im gonna try my idea tomorrow and if it works out, then I just saved myself somewhere around $30. I'll post again after with the results.

i don't think the bulbs you're talking about would be cheaper. and the different colors they come in look like shit after awhile. they do sell bulbs that fit in those locations (size 194) that have very true color, but guess what? those are made up of tiny LED's emoji i've got some in my domelight. LED bulbs are the only way to get a nice blue like that. i have some've those regular painted blue 194 bulbs in the foot wells and they look like shit now. they were never really blue. i'm gonna buy some 194 LED bulbs to put there instead later. should be about $15 a pair.. how many LED"s did you end up using btw (for the cluster)? i'm gonna do my cluster and the needles eventually after i swap my indiglos for some speedhut reverse indiglos.

where you get the tiny bulbs?? I couldnt fing them anywhere thats why I was gonna do the mod. You got a link to the 194 led bulbs??
Oh.. I haven't don the mod yet, I bought 7 leds for the job, cause all I saw was 7 bulbs with the orange condom. Oh.. I did something else for a friends civic once before.
his reverse glow were kinds fugged up so I kinda played around with them. I took them apart acutally.. Well.. the 2 peices that you can take apart anyways. Im refering to the back template that actually glows, the the top template that holds the numbers and "tic" lines. After taking them apart, I just cleaned up the glow piece with some 600grit wet sand. After that was finished it just glowed a bright blue with nothing on it. kinda like a full moon. I took his original templates and sanded out the numbers and "tic" lines. Then just overlayed that ontop of the glow piece, kinda like your own custom glow gauges, but with the OEM factory faces. I admit, he got asked alot of times where he bought them cause no one seem factory faced reverse glow gauges before. Oh.. and by doing what I just said, doesn't require a need to change to LED lights. (there indiglow blue) afterall.

Oh and by the time you spend all the money on led's, time spent sanding, and wiring, and dealing with the spotting, it is just easier and cheaper to buy reverse indiglo gauge overlays.

no kidding.. unless you REALLY REALLY want reverse indiglos w/ stock faces just buy some aftermarket ones. it's a lot easier. i'm gonna be buying some from speedhut and doing my own import intelligence type needles. idk that's just me b/c i like white face gauges though.

i used to have the reverse ones.. but I kinda like my stock faces.. I got the 10th anniversary edition GS so it already came with white/silver faces, didn't really like the way the aftermarket ones looked on it. Thats why I decided to take them off and do the mod.
but looking at the prices on the the led 194 bulbs... 22.00 for a set.. that means that I need to get 4 sets, and thats like 88.00~!!!!! YIKES~!!!!

hehe told ya... emoji
oh and as far as the revese indiglos, some've the ones from speedhut match the hvac led conversion really well. you need to get the ones w/ the dark blue font though. that way when they light up at night they're a nice dark blue. there's a post awhile back w/ speedhut gauges and import intelligence needles. matches the hvac better than any other setup i've seen. just search for 'import intelligence' as the topic.

*edit*
on second thought, before you go resurrecting ANOTHER dead topic - here's the link and pics emoji :
