#46063, "taking apart domelight and visors..."

anyone know how to take apart the domelight (no sunroof) or the visors on our cars? i wanna paint stuff and redo the visors when i redo the headliner. i got the domelight almost apart except i can't get the two button on the side out... it looks like they might be attached by some sort of clip or something? anyone done this before? i could prolly paint w/ them still in but i'd rather take everything apart...

as for the visors, did anyone figure out how to do it themselves? i wanna paint the plastic bits and change the material on the rest? how is the fabric held in there? i can't really see anyway to take it apart...

for the dome light you need to remove the whole assembly from the roof. there is 4(i think) little screws to remove and then the buttons and stuff will come out.

yea i have the domelight out and almost completely out. the two buttons (the ones you have painted red) won't come out of the main piece though.. it looks like there might be a clip holding the button on but i'm not sure. did you just pull the back part of the button out?

i'm planning on painting the whole housing and buttons/switch the same color though so it's not that big a deal. i could paint it more thoroughly with the buttons out though. just dont' wanna break 'em in the process emoji

dammit this is sooo pissing me off. i cannot get those two buttons out. i even have the backing of the switch for the most part dismantled.. it's just the switch casing (black case with white piece inside) and the white plastic piece connecting through the domelight housing to the button on the othe side... argh! i don't wanna break somethin but i wanna be able to paint this good...

anyone else know about the visors??

thanks for the pics juggalo - it looks like you redid your headliner/visors too (i don't see that lovely little warning sticker that's supposed to be attached to the visor? how'd you do the visors?

yea i might jsut paint 'em with 'em in.. better than cracked buttons. i really wanna redo the visors though. i went from that gross tanish/grayish color to solid black. i'm doing silver accent in my car (stock grey) so i'm already painting the domelight housing silver. i wanna make the visors black too and accent the mirrors an stuff on them... i suppose i could tape stuff off and paint but that's stil not that great...

just take out the two screws on the back

then just pull on the little black box. the button will pop off. this is what it looks like after you take it off.

ya either push it foward or pull it back (i forget which) and it'll just kinda fall down. it's jsut held in w/ some little bendy metal things. same idea as the bumper markers.

juggalo thanks for the pics! i guess i just gotta yank em a bit.. i got the screws off and everything but the buttons are just really stuck on to that post thingy... will try tugging a bit harder then emoji

now then - anyone with info for the visors? if i can't get the visors black i'm not gonna cut out the holes for them on the headliner and i'll just leave them off... i'd rather have them on though... anyone know how to put new material on the visors?

actually sun's never really been a problem for me.. if anything it's a pain trying to get my sun screening thing for the windshield to stay up when i leave the car some place sunny... but seriously if i cna't find a way to make the visors match nicely i'm gonna leave them off. i think the headliner looks pretty nice w/o any holes punched for the visor bits. i think i'm gonna leave the 'oh shit' bar off too... looks pretty clean like this.

if someone's got a good way of redoing the visors it'd be much appreciated emoji

did you take the fabric off of them yet? i was looking at my one today that has a small hole in it and it is black plastic underneath. i dont know what they will look like though, but if they are black and look alright, you may not have to recover them.
