hey, my hometown is in texas but im up in oklahoma for school so i gotta watch both state laws. im thinking about a total blackout...headlights, tails, and maybe even the reverse and side markers. i have seen some people completely blacked out with no probs (with the law)and others who have been thrown in jail and had to take them off and such...just wanna know kinda how the laws are in these two states....and any vehicle codes i might have to know. my car is the dark green and have dark tint and the oh-so-ugly 95-96 headlights and i think it would look pretty sweet blacked out. anyways, any info is much apperciated as always. tia!

I rolled around with headlight and taillight blackouts for a while. I figured I probably wouldn't get hassled too much as long as it was daylight, and I was right. But then again, where I live cops don't really care either way. emoji
In response to your question however... I'm pretty sure any blackout is illegal in any state, regardless of night or daytime.

I found this after some further investigation:

http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/statutes/tr/tr0054700toc.html

§ 547.302. Duty to Display Lights
(a) A vehicle shall display each lighted lamp and illuminating device required by this chapter to be on the vehicle:
(1) at nighttime; and
(2) when light is insufficient or atmospheric conditions are unfavorable so that a person or vehicle on the highway is not clearly discernible at a distance of 1,000 feet ahead.

§ 547.321. Headlamps Required
(a) A motor vehicle shall be equipped with at least two headlamps.
(b) At least one headlamp shall be mounted on each side of the front of the vehicle.
(c) Each headlamp shall be mounted at a height from 24 to 54 inches.

§ 547.323. Stoplamps Required
(a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), a motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, or pole trailer shall be equipped with at least two stoplamps.
(b) A passenger car manufactured or assembled before the model year 1960 shall be equipped with at least one stoplamp.
(c) A stoplamp shall be mounted on the rear of the vehicle.
(d) A stoplamp shall emit a red or amber light, or a color between red and amber, that is:
(1) visible in normal sunlight at a distance of at least 300 feet from the rear of the vehicle; and
(2) displayed when the vehicle service brake is applied.

It appears you don't have to display headlamps under daylight conditions. But you do have to display your taillamps every time you brake. emoji

A friend of mine is a cop and what he told me at least in the state of florida is, You can have a headlight cover as long as you have enough forward light ie... Fog lights! Now he told me any headlight cover wether it be tinted or painted is not legel, but they will let you slide if you have another light source! Thats what he told me!

the covers from GTS come in either blackout or carbon fiber. i have carbon fiber and they look pretty cool. only problem i faced with the rear ones is it one of them fell off, so i had to take the hole thing off. wasted 80 bucks or so becasue of that imo. heres some pics of them
