There are 3 bolts in the rear (1 towards the center middle of the headlight, 2 by the fender (1 on top, 1 on bottom <- that one is fun) then 1 on top and 1 more on the bottom, directly below the low beam light. I had to remove the bumper to get to it...
hope that helps...let me know if you have any other questions

Yeah I hear unless you break the bottom brackets you have to remove the bumper to get them out. I haven't done it yet... I need to reseal them they leak moisture inside.

yeah there are 4 bolts, the vfaq is wrong, you should go ahead and remove the bumper, it will make the bottom bolt much easier. if not, just break off the bottom bracket, it useless. you can use my walkthrough for the bumper removal on my site if you need it.

safe? its not unsafe to leave any bolts off, but it is fine to do that...i only have two-3 bolts on mine, i think 2 on the driver side and 3 on passenger, enough to keep them from shaking when the car is on.

It depends on the year of the car. 97 and up would be a lot harder because of the front bumper and nowhere to get your hands up there really. On the 95 and 96 its a breeze. On the left hole in the bumper (where the stock foglights are) you can just take the foglight out and easily get the bolt through that hole. Took me like 5 minutes to get each side out. Prolly a bit harder on the 97 and up.
