I need some help on welding the spoiler holes. What kind of welder do you need? and is it hard to weld? and what type of metal and thickness do you need?

I found a welder at lowes for $50. Its a BernOmatic Welding Kit

not gonna do it you need a real welder. those bernzomatic torches are fun to play with though, i have all of them. on that one the oxygen isn't gonna last very long. maybe 10min if your luckey.

You have to use sheet metal and surface weld the "patches" over your holes, then it is shaven and smoothed out with bondo or fiberglass. At that point you then sand and grind it down , then primer it. Not an easy task. Mine's been covered up with vinyl for almost a year now, hehe. I'm waiting because I should have some massive body work within 2-3 months. I was originally quoted $300 per PANEL ( x 3 = $900) but screw that I'm getting the whole car repainted and put the rest of my body kit on and they are throwing all that in.

I would recommend a few years of practice and a decent MIG welder. You "could" oxy-weld it but you would probably wind up warping the metal. If you still want to weld it, I would just advise you to practice on a fender or something of the same gauge metal and remember to alternate sides of the patch to NOT warp it. Also grind down the metal and quench it often to avoid the warpage b/c the grinder can get the metal hot too!

Yea, welding does take a long time to learn, but there's places that you can learn to do it like 6 weeks. It took me a little longer though.

Why couldnt you use fiberglass filler to do this? I have never seen how big the holes are, but i would think you could do that. Thats what its for really Use the stringy fiberglass filler, the sand, then use the finishing bondo filler, then sand, fill, sand, fill, bla bla bla until its nice and smoothe. Then paint.

I just installed the WW 3 piece wing this weekend (bought it used from 97GSA ) On each side fender there are 5 holes. On the trunk there are 2 on each side and 2 in the center. 16 holes is a lot to fill $$$$ I would assume. The WW 3 piece covers all but the center 2 on the trunk. For that I am mounting my XM antenna over them. Looks tight and blends in (advantage of black car).

That could crack. Mainly, the good body shops always weld sheet metal because of the risk of cracking. Some people have done it without problems though, but almost every reputable shop insists on welding sheet metal.

Well on mine, I only had 4 holes from the stock turbo wing. JB Weld was used to fill my holes in. Then bondo to smooth it out, sand it, and painted. Looks great and it's been well over 2 years now and still can't tell where the holes used to be.

Guys please listen to marcus and me. Seriously I think that fiberglass or anything of jb weld would crack. Depends on what climate you live in too I suppose. Here in texas, I bet that would crack before the summer would be over. Wouldn't last one season I bet.

Actually, I bet JB would do fine. I wouldn't go advertising it b/c it's not very professional-- but it works. Welding the holes would simply be hella faster than fiberglass and filler. If you are a good welder, you would need minimal filler if any. (and yes my body instructer is THAT good)

hey yeah, try the JB Stick. thats what i used to seal up the hole in my manifold when i put on my jeep tb. it alot better than the JB Weld. it holds up way, way better.

i used a mig welder for my holes. i weleded over my stick holes from the rs spoiler and antenna. the only holes i needed sheet metal (old car door) for were the middle hole in the hatch, and the antenna hole. all else you can weld around the holes then grind them down and stick bondo, glaze and then sand it. took about half hour to weld them closed. but you need to know what your doing. or else that area will be full of fish eyes if you dont make it just right.

intake, 2.5 exhaust w/gst muffler, pacesetter header, msd wires, ngk plugs, port and polish throttlebody, front and rear strut bars, 1.5' tenzo springs, 17" primax rims, kuhmo tires, leather interior, gsx sideskirts, BM shortshifter, GM fluid in trans...

IMO you could tape up, dam up the bottom of the holes and then fill it with resin and sand it level. You couldnt do this with the huge hole in the midle tho.

i dont know if bondo, fiberglass resin would be good for holes. i can just think if major problems with that. just do it right the first time when it comes to the body of your car. if it cracks off, water isnt good for the inside of your car
