I've been considering reoutfitting my car completely in carbon fiber, but I hear conflicting opinions on the material. So, I'm gonna tap into the wealth of knowledge around here and ask a few questions.
1. Besides being light, what are the advantages of carbon fiber? Disadvantages?
2. Who offers the best quality/price? I've been looking at a few different dealers, but I want some input from what you guys have heard/experienced. I know it ain't cheap, but I wanna make sure I get the best quality for my money...
That's it for now. Any help you guys can give would be appreciated.

for hoods- VIS racing or fiberimages. For other things- www.carbonwerks.com has a lot. It's lightweight and durable to an extent. Not indestructable, but pretty tough. It also has a killer look to it. That's basically it. well, sometimes latches break and if you don't have hood pins, they hood can fly up. Use hood pins.

CArbon- Looks cool very strong for its weight, very rigid but brittle, Carbon DOES NOT FLEX it just breaks carbon is great for being ridgid but it wont take impacts too well...
Fiberglass is not as strong as carbon but FG flexes, its cheaper definatly is no as strong for the same weight of the the materials but it takes impacts much better
You can have it cheap, fast or good. Pick any two.

i saw a clip from a company making CF hoods(don't remember which one) where they dropped a wheel off a ladder on their hood and ran i over and it just flexed. is that because of a fiberglass underframe or what?

i dont know about that company but fiber glass is fixable. If you get a crack in a carbon fiber hood or chip you have to fill it with bondo or fiber glass taking away the fiber look. Fiberglass and carbon fiber weigh about the same

they wheigh the same because they are the same basicaly. A CF hood has 1 layer of CF laid on top of fiberglass (actualy its the other way around the CF is laid first then the fiberglass is applied to the back of that). now if your taliking about doing real CF and 100% CF body pannels then good luck hope you know some people and got some $$$$$

fiberglass is usually a tad lighter. I dunno if that means painted or non-painted. Probably same after paint. Not sure. Fiberglass can be repaired if cracked, cf can't. It can, but you'd have to paint over it then.

cf is lighter then fg because u dont have to use as much to make it as strong fiberglass u have to use more of to get the same strength of CF
CF flexes yea, but it will crack and break very easy too, most hoods are made cheaply least amount of product they can use = better profit,
our hoods 3 layer cf with cf underbody are solid u can stand on our hoods when installed and it will basically hold up,
cf if u wan the look of the clearcoted product cannot be repaired it can if its going to be painted...

yes u can re clear any carbon fiber by wet sanding it all off and shooting it again, its not different then other materials for the most part....
