Today, I went out to my car and hit the alarm button...i thought about the fact that i miswired the door trigger so the courtsey lights only come on in the trunk. Hmm...my mistake, but i dont' want to touch that alarm with a ten foot pole ever again. You understand. Anyway, i was thinking, how hard would it be to wire neon lights around the interior of the car to come on when i unlock my doors. Can I hardwire a bunch of neon housing units to the trunk light fixture or would it be an overload. Anyone messed with the idea?

easy..heres what you do:
go out and buy a relay, a roll of 12 guage "primary wire" (about 20 feet or so), a few female crimp on connectors (to slide over the terminals on the relay...they are blue), and a 30 amp fuse holder w/ fuse. you can get all of this from wal-mart or from autozone, etc. you want to use the known signal that comes on (the trunk light) to trigger the relay to "release" current to the other devices (the neons). all the parts should cost around 12 bucks or so. you might also need various butt connectors and grounding ring terminals to connect the neons into the car, and a t-tap to tap the positive wire on the trunk light.
first, disconnect the negative battery terminal. i cannot stress this part enough. then, run a length of the 12 guage wire through from the positive battery terminal (make sure to put the fuse as close to the battery as possible) through the firewall (underneath the glove box is a large grommet...use a small knife to poke a hole in it). connect that wire (using the female spade type connector) to terminal 30 on the relay. run a wire from terminal 87 to the positive connection of the neon. if more than one is used, get a distrobution block from somwhere like www.partsexpress.com or similar. you might be able to find somthing like it at radioshack, but im not sure. it is not neccisary to fuse this part, as long as you stay consistant with your wire guage (just use the 12 guage wire throughout to simplify). run a spliced connection from the positive wire of the trunk light to terminal 85. run a wire from terminal 86 to a grounding location. then all you have to do is ground all of the neons, and youre done!
