I was thinking this might be something I would like to do. What did you do to install your targa tops. Do they make a kit now? How did you support the frame? If at all? Can I have some info, Pics on how you did it?

As far as I know, no they don't. This is pretty much a custom job.

Some people use a roll-cage to support it, so if you car flips over, the roof won't collapse in. Besides, that, I don't think there is much more you can do, easily. The problem that I have been reading about is, there windshield twists from coming up, because it doesn't have the chassis support for that. They said the roll cage isn't helping much on that.

There are 2 people I know of who has done this.

1.) There is this guy with a 4G63, its a 1999 Eclipse (I think it was a GSX). He has done it. He took pictures of it, when he was building it. This guy is a machine. He knows how much gas he bought and where, from when he bought his car! He keeps it all logged.

mitsureaper at dsmtuners has done it. he doesnt have a lot of pics tho

dre99gsx from dsmtalk is the guy with the white gsx. he has a roll cage and all other sorts of mods to keep his chassis stiff but the door ajar light comes on when he goes up a driveway lol. i think he may have fixed it

Doing it is a HUGE project.

of course you have to do the main part, the top. Cut it out nicely and make a nice fiberglass top that snaps in nicely and is waterproof. The hard part is the structure of the car. Our cars are unibody, and taking away the top cuts its integrity greatly. The only part on our car conecting front and back is the top and bottom. When you take the top away, the entire car will sag an twist terribly. I remember that guy with the white gsx had a terribly time bracing the body and fixing the sag and twisting.

Then on top of all that, its ugly. Our cars arent meant for it, and it shows. But... It is different.

powereclipses, i live in bethlehem and i dont think there's any shops in our area that would do this. at least not for a decent price..u would probably have to do the whole thing urself and that is a BIIIIIG job...good luck though.

Now....would an odd shape sunroof need any reinforcement?? Hmmmm.....

Since this is a custom job, why not do T tops? That way you would still have the roof connected. I know it would be even harder to do, but at least you have some support.

1st, a regualr roll cage aint gonna cut it.. i had a 6 point at first, still alot of flex in the windshield area. i havent put my car on the road yet since ive completed the targa for real driving, but from driving it up the street and back, i knew that the regualar rollcage wasnt gonna cut it. so..... more frame work to do. so if you wanna complete a targa top sucessfully, these are some vaiables you will need to consider

1. http://www.artmorrison.com/F_RollBarCage.htm, A 8 POINT ROLLCAGE not ROLLBAR big difference.

2. x beams under chasiss welded,my car isundergoin this upgrade in the next couple of weeks or so.

3. some sort of custom lattches, i use convertible top latches, looks pretty clean and there durable.

4. weather stripping.

after you get the cage gone, and the chasis reinforced, all the rest is pretty much straight foward. getting the car not to flex as much is the hard part.i made rear brackets for the rear of the top, to slide it in in the back . im made the bar that goes down by the door removable. if you guys have anymore questions, let me know and maybe i can help out....

and i cant give you guys a exact price because it varies apon location. i would say roughly for the chasis reinforcement and the x-beams rollcage, about 800 for the chasis, and about 200 for the cutting of the top.
