how much is chromalusion paint (just the paint.. not the application)? also is it any different to put on than normal paint? i have a friend who is really good at painting cars who said he paint my eclipse for 150 bucks if i bought the paint and i thought with the money i saved i could maybe buy some chromalusion. also do you get to pick what colors it changes to? thanks a lot

The last time I checked (about 6 months ago) the BASF brand was running $450 a quart. This paint is sprayed straight from the can. It does not thin out. So it takes quite a bit more paint than normal. The only other thing that is "different" is the primer. It is not required, by BASF said we had to use their primer if we wanted the warranty on the paint. Hope this helps you. And keep one other thing in mind, a paint job is only as good as the prep and application. emoji

$450 a quart? Wow. How many quarts does it normally take to paint a car and how much does a quart of factory paint run?

The amount depends on how many coats. Figure at least a gallon (4 quarts). I maybe wrong on that though. I can find out if you would like. It is always good to befriend a body shop! emoji I have been doing computer work for this shop for about 5 years now. They handle all of my stuff. They are the ones that are doing all the paint and body work on my 1992 Chevy Show Truck. Regular paint runs anywhere from $20 to $100 a quart depending on the color.

Yup 4 quarts at LEAST I would say. I almost used up two quarts painting my front bumper, one fender, and two doors (blending). They didn't even paint the whole door. BTW, Lexus GS paint straight from the dealer is about $1000 a gallon last time my friend checked. And most people say for chameleon paint, it costs about $2000 just for materials, which would be about 4 quarts at $450/quart.
