#35121, "Anyone Shaved their door handles?"

Hey Im going to get my car painted pretty soon so i figure it'd be pretty cool to shave my handles off. Anyways I have an RS so I know that I need to at least start off with automatic locks but after that has anyone done this, could I do it or would I have to have a shop do it, where can I get a kit or anything?

Thanks,

-EnDeR

you don't need automatic locks to begin with, b/c w/ shaved doors there is no need for locks anymore.

I really want to do this too someday. There are plenty of universal kits out there, but I've heard that you should avoid the ones that use gears (someone said autoloc is like that) and instead use the ones that function magnetically.

You can install the mechanisms if you are good with electrical work. But as for shaving the handles - find a REALLY good body shop. That will be the difference between clean lines or really messed up looking doors.

there's one person on this board who I know has done this but I can't remember his name

I've heard though that most tracks won't let you run if you shave your door handles. I think our cars would look sweet with shaved handles, but won't do mine because i hope to race my car eventually...

my doors lock when I get in and put the key to on position and hit my brake. They auto lock when moving. Same principle. They say it's unsafe to have shaved handles b/c they can't rescue u. If the door's locked, they can't get in anyways. Also cops can't open doors. If it's locked they can't either. That law doesn't make a damn bit of sense to me. The handle's not gonna work if it's gone, but it won't work when locked either. emoji

Well to answer the Original question, If you want the passenger side door to open then you do need power locks. You cant open the passenger side door if it is locked. Then you need a door popper kit. I would recommend getting a quality kit. I would also suggest getting a window roll down kit. I have this as a backup. The fuse blew on my door poppers and i had to climb in from the trunk. Kindd of embarrasing whe in a suit with a date waiting.

rescue you?? wtf if ur in an accident the doors usually dont even open. and if the accident was small, then you would probably be well enough to not need to be rescued

I have had mine done for allmost a year and have been to the track and pulled over with them shaved no problems so far (its been parked for almost 3 months now though). I like the autoloc kit it has poppers for both sides and a back up button along with optinal alarm www.autoloc.com . If you have roll down windows it will not matter they would be run off the same fuse so your still screwed. Also get a very good body shop to do them the curve is a pain in the a$$ to get right with no waves. I did mine myself and am good at body work and am still having a problem with having a small wave in it, but I got all winter to get it right before I finaly get it painted lol .

EDIT here is a crappy pic car still looks the same basicaly emoji
