Hey before I say anything might I add that I hate my paint job. The guy before me tried to give it this cool two tone paint which is red with purple. But he didnt consider that during the day when the sun is constantly on it it looks pinkish. So I have a dilema I've already ordered a new bumper but I want to put a turbo spoiler on and all this crap so I'm thinking about primering it until I can get it painted. so here are some of the things I need to know:

1) How can I primer my car, I mean what sandpaper should I use is there anything I need to know, Im basically clueless as far as paint goes.

2) Is there anything wrong with just rolling around in a primered car, I mean it wont rust or anything like that will it?

3) How long will it take?

4) How hard is it?

5) Anything else I should know?

I'm not sure on the number of grit of sandpaper, but use the coarsest first, with a belt sander, and rough it up good. Then gradually work your way down to a finer grit sandpaper. You can use ANY type of primer, but I would recommend spray primer like rustoleum exterior. Depending on the future color of your car, do light shades for light colors, obviously.

I drove for half a year on a all blue primered truck before it was painted. Shit happens. I refuse to have any primer spots on my car, which is why I have the graphics on my car, covering up my driver side's blemishes.

If you are going to be doing all this, if you have a body kit or anything like that, why not do something a little wild anyways? Cut into your sides, make mr2 vents, cut holes in the fenders, make some types of custom body panel work. Kill 2 birds with one stone if you ask me. Then when it's all painted and looking nice, you have some major custom fabbing on the outside. That looks killer at shows.

You can drive for a while on primer, over time eventually you might show rust spots. Just sand those down and primer of that again and sand to blend. No big deal. I also suggest shaving the door handles and buying those door popper kits. They are like $50 a door. Man if I had a second car, I would be doing SOOOOO much fkn CRAZY body mods on my car in my own time. Damn. I might just do that, save for a beater 1g or something.... *ponders off into deep thought......
