#33726, "anyone used VHT Niteshades?"

Saw this spray stuff that is supposed to black out lenses, but appear clear when the lights are on to give visibility like it isn't there. Anyone done their tails with this? If so, do they still show up the same? Or is it hard to see the light after spraying it? I have covers, but I want the red part showing to be black until lights are on. If you have them, I'd liek to see pics of them off, and on after spraying. Also, is this stuff thick or thin, and does it spray pretty evenly? TIA

i think someone on this board either used it or knew someone who used it and they didnt like it. they said it looks evenly sprayed in the day, but at night its all clumped in places and looks like crap. never heard of anyone using it on the tails but im sure the same results will turn out. i get the drift that its hard to apply evenly, if not impossible altogether.

alright, thanks for the reply. Anyone actually used this stuff? I wanna try it, but not if it's a real bitch. I'd like to see how bad it is or hear about it from experience.

Jason has used it on his turn signals, and his brother jarrad used it to black out a set of stock taillights.

It is almost exactly like spray paint. It is easy to apply, and works great. Exactly as expected. When finished, spray a few coats of clearcoat, and they'll turn out nicely.

Here is Jarrad's car, with VHT Nitshades on stock tails.

I'm gonna say to go ahead and use the spray as long as you know what you're doing or have someone who knows what they're doing do it for you. A friend of mine sprayed this crap on his tails himself and layered it too thick, then got impatient, and set them upright too soon. They ran, look blotchy when his lights are on, and just generally look like crap. But I have seen other people's cars where it looked pretty good.

I used the nightshades spray on my last ride's bumper lights and tails... Overall it was pretty easy and went on evenly...well except for the first light I painted...lol. I was impatient and messed up the first light I painted and had to do it over again. Of course the light isn't going to come through as bright as it would if not painted but it is visible and looks pretty cool when done right. Try it out but use lots of light coats and you should be fine. Good luck...

I used it on my taillights. Basically like everyone said, take your time and lots of light coats and time to dry inbetween

As with any type of painting application, just have patience, use many light coats, allow drying time, and clear coat it after that. Take your time...

Yep I got it on the orange of my tail lights (just like Jason). Turns out real good, if you take your time (like everyone said). But I don't know about the whole night thing, the light still gets through but no where close to the amount of stock light. Maybe if you got brighter bulbs or something it would be better. Go to my website to see some pictures of it.

I just ended up moving the turn signal bulbs from the top of the tails to the bottom far sides instead.

Alright, thanks. Who sells this stuff? I can't remember where I saw it. I don't really want to black the lenses out. I have the circles cut and just want a smoked over look for something different since the local neck breaker guy got tail light covers now. I just wanna get something a lot of the locals don't know about. And see how long it takes them to get it after they see it. emoji

I had actually thought of that. Are you sure it's the same? That rc car tint shit sprays really thin and likes to run.

I did mine, I am thinking of getting covers instead of what I have now, the VHT nite shades. The pics of my tail lights are on the bottom link. If you want to buy the Nite Shades, its like $10 at www.coolwheels.com or search vht nite shades on ebay and they are $10 there as well.

Why do you not like the blackout covers?

Hahah don't worry, once one person finds out, everyone does it (or at least here). Honestly I think I was the first person here to use the stuff on my tail lights (I know one other guy that used it for his sidemakers and third brake light). Nonetheless, I told some people about it....sure enough I see saturns, other talons (1gs) and other crap mobiles running around with the tint spray stuff. Oh well, can only be different for so long I guess.
