I replaced the one that came with my car for a racerboy (the one with the 4 buttons on it) , but the wires i had running to it cut , so I bought a new oem shift knob like you just bought. Yea , it's a bit bigger , but you get use to it. I actually like it better than an a/m one.

I love my stock leather shift knob. It feels alot more secure in your hand. I'm really happy with it.

Now if I can only find some damn rear leather seats, I'm set!

I just cut my shifter down last weekend. I took off my stock shift knob and went with an OEM one off a 3g. It's a lot heavier and taller too. I used a sawzall to cut about 1.5" off the shifter, then had a local shop weld it back together. MUCH BETTER!!

^^^ read my post above....a sawzall cuts through damn near anything!! I guess you could use a hacksaw too, but it takes longer. Then just take it to any muffler or welding shop and have the weld it back together minus the piece you cut out.

I think if I remember correctly, the 1st gen shift knobs are lighter. A lot lighter.

The 1G knobs may be lighter, but the threads end a lot lower then the top of the knob. It is kinda shaped like a banana (or a penis). I don't recommend the 1G knob. Besides, a heavy knob is not a bad thing.
