#30189, "The 2g Eclipse...will it's body style be timeless, or will it be worn and tired in the near future??"

Ok,

So here's my question. I proudly own a 1998 Mitsu Eclipse GS. I love my car to death. I love it so much that I never really want to let it go. My question is, will the 2nd generation eclipse still be "cool" and a pleasure to look at 5 years down the road? my reason for this questioning is because, at this point in time, i'm in my second year of college. I suppose when most people finish college, they get a job, place to stay, new car..etc...but for me, Instead of getting a new car, I'd love to keep my eclipse. I really wish for my eclipse to stay with me forever. However, does anyone think that the eclipses polularity and widespread aftermarket parts will dwindle as time goes by? Instead of dropping say, 12 grand on a new car outta college, i'd love to drop 12 grand into my eclipse and turbocharge it (if it isnt by then, already)..or maybe even rebuild with one of those Howell kits..or hey, theres lots of ways you can drop THAT much money into an eclipse....So! does anyone see the way im seeing? or am i just plain out insane?

Thanks!

its body style will always be timeless if u let it be in your mind.
sounds like u need to start putting in mods in your car. you'll love the body style even more once u get wheels & drop it.

Yeah if you own the car, and want to love the body style down the road, then you'll still like it. But as far as the general public, usually whatever is new then is what the style will be, so it will just look a bit "older". Just like 92-95 civics are old, but I still think they look ok modded. Same thing with the CRX, which obviously does not have the modern body style, but still looks ok imo.

or with old mustangs, camaro's, cuda's, Model T's even. The 2g body style is unique and beautiful and is, imo, the best looking, affordable, car on the market. I say that the eclipse will be loved down the road, played out as far as major shows go, ie HIN n such, as they are always looking for the cutting edge n whatnot.

Well hey,

Thanks for your opinions guys...

Good to know that there'll always be a place in all of our hearts for the 2g DSM's..

being the poor 19 year old college kid i am, i've only managed to get exhaust and a system in my eclipse..im saving for a new turbo spoiler at the moment, but who knows when that'll become a reality..

But yeah..Once a 2g'er, always a 2g'er !! : )

Yeah, I love the 2g Eclipse. But I guess we all can be biased since we all own one.

But seriously, the 2g Eclipse is beautiful. Its very distict and clean looking. My only gripe is that there is such a big wheel gap coming straight from the factory.

But then again, I also thought my '91 Accord was God's gift to Earth.

back when they 1st came out, everyone liked 1st gen dsm's. thought they were the shit b/c they looked so damn sporty. then the 2nd gens made them look bad b/c the new body style came out and everyone liked the curves. Now the 3rd gen sucks, so maybe we will be timeless. emoji

Yeah I doubt they'll ever be worth a lot of money but they're definately timeless. I've wanted a 2g since 1996 and it's now 2002 and I just got my hands on one. So if I've been wanting one for 6 years you can bet your ass I'll be keeping it longer }>

Definately keeping mine. When this ones paid off, I'll just go buy another car. Besides, I think its pretty obvious what cars look attractive and which cars dont. Eclipses are unique enough I think they will be remembered, restored, etc down the road 20-30 years. Much as the camaros, novas, chevelles, mustangs, etc are today. Other examples will probably be Toyota Supras, Mazda RX7s, Nissan 300zxs, Chevy Corvettes & Camaros, Mustangs, etc. Anyways, I think the car will always look good and definately will be keeping mine.

Don't forget about the Avenger. I am sure the eclipse and all DSM's will be restored down the road too, they're all unique looking.

Judging by the fact that there are quite a few '91s on the road, I think that the gen2 will last for at least another 10+ years, and who knows when you are a grand-father you and your grandson maybe restoring/cherrying out a classic eclipse 50 years from now.

How cool would that be.

The Supra and the RX7...timeless. The Eclipse...almost timeless. VERY close to the SUPRA and the RX7, but there's something about the Eclipse that's not Quite timeless. I would put it Third in all the average cars catagory.

I use to have a White 99 GS Sport with a Star Stage II Ball Bearing T3/T4 turbo...it was fun untill....well those who remember me know emoji Oh Ya...this is what I have now... a 99' GSX...

I'm never gonna sell mine, even if my life depended on it, it has 153K on it now, and after the motor dies (nowhere near that yet), it will sit in storage till i can buy a new motor or rebuild it and put turbokit on. My dad also gave it to me, so it has "some" sentimental value, but that doesn't matter. I'll be like that old guy down the road with the model T, but mine will be the 95 Talon ESi.
