take those 6 torx screws out. Raise the glass out the top and set it aside. Push the sunroof button so that it slides back about halfway. Somewhere along the middle of the tracks, there is another torx screw that goes through a flat piece that has a 'finger' on it that extends partway across the track to hold it down. Typically this is loose, so tighten it down. While you're in there, you might as well make sure the rest of the screws are tight as well.

Even if you get them all tight, it might not completely quiet the problem. their design sucks and some will rattle regardless. Making sure all the screws are tight will make it fairly quiet though. Good luck

Matt

ONe more thing I thought of a few minutes ago. when you're putting it back together...
put the glass back in and then put the 6 torx screws in, but don't tighten them.

pick a side and make sure the front is even with the lines of the car then tighten the front screw while holding hte glass in place. it's possible with one person, but much easier w/ 2. Then line the back up and tighten the back screw. then tighten the middle. Repeat on the other side.

I completely disassembled, cleaned, and lubricated the entire assembly, along with re-timing the sunroof ECU/motor. Re-greasing the cables made it slide soooo nicely. And now, I have no (!!!) rattles (from the roof, anyways). Took me all night. Am I nuts? Yes. Was it worth it? Most definately.

I found a spray lithium grease. You spray it in as a liquid, and it coagulates (gels up) a bit, and turns into grease. I would spray a bit into the rails, and onto the cables since you should remove them. Don't forget to re-allign the timing marks on the sunroof ECU.

what do you use to unscrew the hexx screws? Some special head on a screwdriver?

Can you post specifically how to retime the ECU?

If i had never gotten into cars, i could still afford to eat.

Well, if you get deep into the bowells of the sunroof assembly, you will get to the sunroof ECU/sunroof motor. It is one unit that the cables come out of. There is a window on the side of it, and a gear to turn. You want to look in the window and line up the 2 white lines (timing marks) by turning the gear one way or the other. It is all explained in the FSM.
