Got the car back today, it looks OK. There are two dings in the quarter panel that I didn't see before, looks like where the bastards tried to kick in the window and missed. SO I get to take it back... I am so sick of this car.

Then there is the new paint. They ended up repainting the whole roof, the whole hatch, and the whole drivers side quarter panel. Well there is orange peel, I noticed it right away and both my girlfriend and her mom saw it too, so it must be bad. Is there anything that can be done about that?

Orange peel should be wet sanded and buffed professionally at least 1 week after the paint is done. Let it absorb, and then they can color sand and buff it. But if it's fish eye, you can't do anything about it. Also, they shouldn't have had to repaint all that if they could blend paint.

Well they didn't blend SHIT, they seriously repainted the whole roof, the whole hatch, and the WHOLE quarter panel. It looks like ass too because the paint on the drivers door and the sideskirts is faded a bit, so the quarter panel is darker than the rest. I am not sure if it is "orange peel" or "fish eye" but it looks like there are little dimples all over the newly repainted areas.

If it goes in, it is fish eye (they look like small dots). But if it looks just unsmooth like an orange peel all over, then it can be color sanded and buffed. Fish eye is an actual dip in the paint so that it goes in. That sucks they didn't blend it. What pros do is sand the entire panel, but blend the paint in so you don't end up repainting the entire panel. Then you just spray clear coat over the entire panel, and it looks perfect. But it seems like a lot of painters can't blend, and most body shops I talk to just say they repaint the entire piece, so I guess it's typical. My doors and fender that were keyed were blended perfectly back when my car was gray.

Well that sucks... based on your description I have some fish eye. This was suppose to be a reputable body shop too. I only went there because my insurance agent showed me his car that was painted there, and it looked perfect. SO I guess I take it back tomorrow and tell them to fix it... thanks for your help bud!

if its got fish eyes, their going to have to repint it all over again. Cause thats what happened to my car last week. But my body shop called and told me about it and said they were goignt o re-do everything.

A lot of times fish eye is caused by dust and a non-perfectly clean surface. The ONLY way to fix fish eye is to repaint it. So if it really is fish eye, you will have to get it repainted which is a lot of work for them. I would consider asking for a partial refund or something and taking it elsewhere since they can't blend anyways.

Jason, it probably isn't fish eyes. It is most likely just orange peeled and in some need of sanding. You can have the whole car wet sanded and buffed to make it shinny again. Make them sand and buff it but like 804 said wait for it to completely cure. Thats the cool thing about clear coat you can fuck up a paint job and fix it as long as you have enough clear on it.
