#26891, "Need a huge favour from all - Paint Cracking"
Alright, I washed my car like 2 weeks ago (I wash it like 3-4 times a week) and I noticed cracks on my hood. It seems as if the paint is actually splitting to a point of numerous (maybe 20) cracks (half an inch long). I took it to satan to see what was up and they didn't say anything - just that the main Chrysler body shop guy is coming in next week and he will get back to me and tell me if they will replace, pay half or do nothing. Well I haven't gotten a call from them but its more because the body shop guy just shows up - he has no set date on when he comes in. Anyways, I talked to my friend with a 98 ESi and he has the exact same thing on his spoiler, except ALOT worse! What I need from you guys is to check your factory paint for any type of splitting or cracking. There is no way, in my mind, that 2 cars could have the same problem and it not be a problem with Chryslers paint. The biggest factor is they are both Talons, which may make a difference - I really don't know.
Could everyone check their paint for the splitting and get back to me - if more people have it, then their must be something wrong with the paint jobs.
I'll take a picture to show you guys what I mean (its hard to see in some lights), hopefully the camera will pick it up. EDIT: Camera doesn't pick it up good enough.

i think i know what you are refering to. i think i have two spots that are kinda cracking, but they are hard to see.. one is on the hatch and the other on the roof. my spoiler is practically 3 colors as the stock side pieces were fading considerably. and the clear coat is coming off the tops of my mirrors.. but funny thing is you cant really see the stuff in pictures.

I almost bought a '96 TSi with paint peeling off the spoiler like mad...mine is okay, but I think my spoiler has been repainted...it looks like it has orange peel compared to the rest of the car...

Yeah its definetly weird. I'll try putting some wax over the cracks then hopefully it will get stuck in the cracks and I can photograph it.
I went back to Chrysler and they still don't know when the "main guy" is coming in - within 2 weeks though. The guy definetly sounded like it has happened before though!! Interesting stuff....maybe get a recall against it. I wish!

It could be a couple of things. I repainted my car last year & we added a flex agent so that the paint won't crack so easily, especially with urethane bumpers. Maybe they didn't clean the surface well enough & there's some solvents or something that affected the paint/clearcoat once it was finally dry. Whatever it is, if they painted it, & it's f**ked up. They should fix it at no charge. Period! If they tell ya "sorry about your luck," that's just bad business, & word of mouth can have irrepairable effects.
