Hi folks, here´s the German again.

Got myself some U.S.-side-mirrors from a driver out of this forum. Thanks a lot, Richard!

Now I must bring them to be painted.

How can I disassemble the mirror glasses from the housings? And how to assemble them back into the housings?

I guess some of you must have done this before, please help me!

Thanks a lot for your answers.

See ya,
Michael

What gig you do with the Euro spec mirrors, the ones that fold out? If you have them kicking around, would I be able to take them off of your hands for a price?
Thanks!

Hi 1Bill.

I don´t know if you guys in the States have something comparable, but in Germany there is an authority called TÜV (you could call it an authority for technical surveillance).
If your car is not TÜV-approved, you are not allowed to drive it on German streets.
There are so many stupid rules over here, for example what tyres in combination with what rims on what car you are allowed to drive. If your car isn´t in the list, you have to let them do a single-check, costs about 80 $ (I had to do it with my rims and tyres).
There are even rules what parts - they must have a TÜV-approval or at least a document that confirms they are not harmful to anyone out on the streets - you are allowed to build onto or into your car.
So we cannot do such great mods on our cars as you can do in the U.S.
The most stupid thing I got to know recently: You probably know the alu-race-pedal-covers? In Germany, the TÜV has to check, if your installation is correct (means: as the supplier tells in his manual), and that alone will cost you about 40 $, only to get an OK from TÜV.
Ain´t that shit?

Every two years we have to refresh our TÜV-approval, and in my case it could be, that the man at TÜV knows, how my mirrors should look like and won´t give me the approval for my car if I drive it with the US-mirrors, so I probably will have to change the mirrors back again (at least the day I go to TÜV, haha).

That´s why I can´t trade my mirrors, so sorry.

The risk that I might need them again, if TÜV or the police tell me so, is too high.

CU,
Michael

Sometimes I'm really glad I left Germany to live in the States! If I had my cars there they probably would have kicked my ass out by now emoji

And for the Germans: Manchmal bin ich echt froh damit ich Deutschland verlassen habe um in den Staaten zu wohnen. Wenn ich meine Autos dort haette, haetten die mich schon laengst rausgeschmissen.

Ha! Not bad for not writing any German in the last 3 years emoji

Hi Jen.

Definitely not bad for a three year break...your German is still very good.
How long have you been here and where?

CU,
Michael

I moved to Missouri in September of '98. Then, last year I moved to Denver, Colorado. At the end of July I'm going back to Missouri/Arkansas though where my parent's are and I'm sure I'll be speaking more German with them once I move back emoji

Yo Jen.

Seems to be a little misunderstanding.

Where in Germany did you live before you moved to the States?
Your parents talk German?

Cu,
Michael

Yeah, my parents talk mostly German at home.

I lived and grew up in Schwaebish Gmuend-Bargau, about 30 minutes from Stuttgart. When I was 16, my family moved to Missouri. From there I moved to Denver and in a month I'm moving back to Missouri.

Or this:

and I don't think you would have to dissasemble the mirrors, they can just be taped off when they go to paint them.
