Dose anyone know the bulb size for back lighting the gauges???
I am going to put on a set of indiglos and wanted to change out these lights so the odometer doesn't have a amber tint.

When you put the Indiglo Guages on - You will not see any Amber Lights whatsoever.

My Indiglo are so sweet and Blue (I can change them from blue to green with 3 set of shade each - actually 4 setting for the blue and 3 for the green).

Try copying and pasting this url to another page if it doesn't appear:

its very simple.. two screws for the outside bezel. then pull that out. four screws to get the whole cluster out. then from there it is just some plastic clips and your home free.

^^what once was^^

^^what is now.. and permanently^^

NO the odometer where the milage is counted...
look at your own picture, the odometer is lit up with that yellow light, I wnated to replace this light with a white or blue light
so I would not get this yellow color...

Dude its simple... well kinda... after you remove the Gauge cluster; there are about 12-14 bulbs on the back right ? (Those are the bulbs you wanted to find out the size) However you don't have to change all of them... just about 5-6 of em'.
Which ones ? Well start taking out bulb by bulb, look for the ones that have a little yellowish-orange plastic . Those bulb that have the yellowish-orange thingy are the ones that gives light to the reflectors within the Gauge cluster (The reflectors are what gives light to the odometer & BTW, don't bother on removing the colored plastic thingys 'cuz it ain't gonna make a difference cuz the bulb itself is yellow) I've tried everything... I painted them damn bulbs, change the plastic thingy, tried to put some blue school-project covers at the reflector but NOTHING works ! emoji

The only thing that you could do is change the reflector-bulbs to LED's but that's the hell of a "tedious" way to do it (4 the electrical impaired like me). It would be something like this... with the exception of course of changing the needles themselves.

(Sorry I don't remember who's site is this but it is Xtremely helpful all da time!)

http://www.angelfire.com/fl5/import/indigloneedles.html

Good Luck Bro!

PS - Have you seen the new VW Jettas Gauge clusters... ? I felt in love with those gauges... Damn those Jettas !

Ok, to change the dash lights........

take out the dash, then take apart the cluster (the clear, than black, tan while plastic overlays) now you will see the gaugues. carfully pry up the stock gauges. they are glued on, but not that great. Now with 230 grit sand paper sand off the back side. Hold it up to the light to see the amber disaper. Now the lights for the dash are clear and there are no replacements. sooooooo you can leave them clear or you could be like some of us and replace them with leds. I did so I have indiglo gauges with blue leds behind it. there are a total of 7 lights in the that you would have to change. I hope this helps

OHHHHHH NOOOOOO ! I just pulled everything back together again yesterday like for the 4th time and now I gotta do it again just to sand the back part of the gauges ?

Hey HondaHater... Does that work on 10th Ann. Ed. too ? 'Cuz our gauges are kinda different... I think. Anyone out there with 10th Ann. Ed that has done this ?

OK now I am the one in need of help ! emoji

HondaHater how did you manage to connect the LED's ? Did you follow that same procedure of the site I posted above ?
Cuz honestly; I don't understand that 12 volt thing, and... well I thought perhaps there is another way to connect the LED's... maybe directly to the HVAC Green cables ? or the cigarrette lighter power cable or the ashtray bulb cable since afterall, those lights comes up at the same time the gauges cluster lights does.
Or is there somewhere else it can be hooked up to ?

TIA...

well, the 10th addidion should be the same dash wise. however you can wire up the leds to what ever you want. I think my dash lights I have wired to my headlights. What ever is easiest for you. Most wires with green and a white strip are the headlights, so n e thing you splice into there will come on with the lights

To clarify I am not talking about the gauges themselves. I think hondahater knows what I am talking about, the mile counter in the middle of the speedo is lit up from ambient light that shades it a yellowish tent, from what you are telling me is that the lights that are lighting this up are the same little lights that light up all of the controlls (defroster, foglight, power windows ect.) If this is the case I would have to replace them with LED's, to make any difference in this.

Basically I am trying to find a way to not have the yellow numbers in the middle of the speedo with my indigo gauges. (see the 2nd post for link of an example of this)

Any other Ideas...

thanks for the posts...

ok, with my set up I have indiglow gauges and indiglow needles. I did the same prosces however diferent. to make just needles blue takes some skills but it can be done. I took a LED and took a dremel to it. I sanded the round dome flat untill I got to the filiment. Next I drilled a small hole right next to the needle on the spedo inbetween the odometer. then jamed it in and superglued it there. I put the simaler setup in the other 3 gauges. Then I took out all the stock lights and thats it. Now with the led inbetween the odometers and all the stock lights out, that lights up both numbers, and since you have the indiglos, u dont need the other 7 dash lights. I hope this helps

YES - I KNOW WHAT Your Talking about - The odometer where the your mileage shows.

Trust me once you install the Indigle Gauges, it won't show yellow/orange at all.

I have a Picture of mine at night: Give me a e-mail address and I'll send you a picture of it or e-mail me at chowmane99@hotmail.com and I'll send an attachment of the Picture and you'll see what I mean.

Your RIGHT. My Bad.

I just went to my car and took a look. The Odometer is still slightly amber.

Sorry. It's just that the Indiglo Blue Looks so Nice that you will never notive the amber Odometer unless you stare at it.

I did, the bulb size is the tiny little bulbs that are as bis as this O. So u have to use leds. Oh, to change the cig light, all u have to do is take off the side panel and you will se the cig lighter, the black tube with the geen and white wire is the light, take it out and put in the led and its done.

If I havent got ur question yet, re word it or call up the dealership and they will tell you its the same little bulb
