I'm piecing together the 97+ conversion body parts for my talon and I'll need to paint everything black.

So here's my question, I found some skirts and a front bumper that are that burnt orange color. For 200 for the lot. When I get them repainted to black, does the orange have to be sanded off or something first or do they just paint over it.

Then I've got a factory oem rear bumper thats black urethane. Will this have to be primered first before they paint.?

finally should I take all the peices seperately and get em done or should I put everything on the car and have the whole car painted?

for the side skirts i would just wet sand them down slightly with 600 wet/dry paper. and for the bumper yes you need to primer it before painting it since it doesn't have a coat of paint in it already. The side skirts will use the orange paint as the primer so you just have to wet sand slightly and they will be good to go.

Yup what ^ said. Anything that's painted, just wet sand 400 grit to get ALL the clear coat off. THe base paint coat acts as a primer. For the urethane unpainted rear, have the shop prep and primer it.

thanks a lot for he reply's I'm going to search on wet sanding. but if you could answer one more question.

Do I just get some 400 or 600 wet/dry sand paper and sand till color starts to come off a little?

or do I put water on the body part I'm sanding and sand until I see color on the paper?
(may be a dumb question but I don't know)

Also BIG question: there is a baseball sized spot on the front bumper where the black is showing where the paint came off, is there anything I should do about this? or will they just paint right over it and it'll be ok?

If the black urethane is showing through, you'll need to primer. When you wet sand, keep dipping it in a bucket of soapy water, and you can use a squeegee to wipe off the water and check the status. When you wipe off the water with a squeegee, it will look dull if the clear is gone, or you will see shiny remnants if there is still some clear. You will probably end up sanding the whole thing 2-3 times to get rid of all the clear in all the spots.

^^Does this mean I have sand the whole bumper completely to the urethane or just primer the area where the urethane is showing and then sand that even with the paint?

Just primer the area with the urethane showing through (a bit larger than that area) then sand it down. But you have to use good primer. I would let the body shop primer it, it's very little work to primer a small area and sand it even. That way they can't blame the paint not sticking due to your primer.
