My engine is nasty looking now that i'm fixing it up whats the best way to was the engine and the engine bay?

you wanna cover major electrical parts up and watch when u spray around the plugs.. also, if you do this at a carwash and drive the car home, be sure to open the hood after you get it home.. otherwise the water will turn to steam when the engine heats up then back to water if you dont open the hood after getting home.. a big problem people run into is the steam condenses on major sensors like the crank angle and then fouls it out.. big trouble!

Well i have power washed my engine about 4 times now since i have had the car. I dont cover up anything. I get the engine a little warm. Shut off the car. Use engine degreeser or equivalent, spray down the whole entire engine bay. Start car, let it dry off. I never covered up anything(i have to cover up the filter now,short ram), and the car always started right up, no problem. I really soaked the motor and electricals too. I think the key is to not let the water stay on the parts for a long time. We have a totally sealed ignition system, no need to cover it up. Most things in the engine bay can take water with no problem, most sensors have rubber seals on their electrical connectors, so i never had probs with those. I have never had any kind of probs whenever i have done it this way..

Me either and I did it the same way as well. I usually start the engine for a bit and shut it off to help with the drying process as I whip up the water. Like he said most of out engine is sealed for that purpose.

i just went to a local store, bought some engine degreaser, started my car and let it warm up a bit, sparyed the entire bay with the degreaser, let soak in for about 15-20 minutes, then spary it down with hose/pressure washer. then i dried off as much as i could. turned out pretty good. u can spray tire shine on hoses and what not to give it that black/shiny look.
