I hate how big my automatic shift knob is so I really want to change it. I'm gonna put a shift boot on it so it would cover those nasty huge ass letters (P R N, etc.). I don't really like any automatic knob out there (except the ones that cost $80). Whats needed to do this? I know its not a direct fit, but was wondering if it could be done in general. I would like to be able to just push down on the knob to put it into another gear (like out of park). I would relocate the overdrive button to the dash, what else is needed. Thanks

i did this to my friends eclipse. there are 3 phillips head screws on the shit knob total. all we did was get one of those pep boys shifters that come with the boot and slap it on. b/c in the autos, all you do is push down on this lever to release it from whatever gear it is in. so we put the new one on, trimming the plastic rim to make it fit better, and then put on the boot. now his shifter looks 5speed with no buttons, and the over drive switch is under the shift boot tie strapped to the shifter lever under the boot as well. all he needs is a fake clutch pedal! later
