I have a question about this.

My car has normal tails...but when I brake, the middle tail light goes out/off. and when I turn on my signal to turn right, they relay, while the left taillights are normal. my stepdad who's a mechanic says my socket is bad, but I'm not sure. I've had people comment about filing down a nipple on the bottom of the bulbs and I tried doing that, but nothing happened when I put the modified bulb in the left tail light. Any help with this is appreciated. does anyone know how much a new socket is???

here is a model of my tail light bulbs (the X is the one that goes off and that side relays the inner bulbs)

ooo --- oxo

well more than likely the bulb went bad. just get a new set of bulbs for it. if that doesn't help then it might be the socket. get one from a junk yard cause the dealer will only sell them if you buy the taillight.

if you want the hyper/relay blinker bubls you can do two things

get some 1004 bulbs and grind down one of the prongs and stick them in where the x is on this little pic

or
you can just cut the black wire on the socket where the x is

Ya 90% chance it's just that the bulb (the one that goes out when you brake) burned out one filament. It's supposed to be dual filament so that it shines brighter when you brake. Mine do the same thing because I intentionally cut the ground wire to the center bulb, so it alternates when you signal, and turns completely off when you brake (the inner most bulb towards the center of the car).
