really bored and wondering if anyone has ever converted a laser pointer to work in a car wired up to the alarm light? i got a laser pointer that uses button batteries but dont know if you could convert it to 12 volt. it would be cool if you had it flashing a red dot on your dash or something. any ideas techies? jeff

Well it depends on the alarm. Some alarms have 12 volt led's, some have lower voltage like 2-5 volts. Find that out. Then see how many batteries the pen takes. Prob 2 1.5volt batts. Then find a resistor that will cut down the car's 12 volts to the 3 volt needed for the lasar pointer, if thats what it indeed takes. If you have a 3 volt alarm led, then you should be able to directly hook up to the alarm's led wires. Be careful though, it is possible to burn up the alarm's led output if too much current is going through it. I have personally done this with about 5 DEI alarm led's on a DEI alarm system. DEI uses 2 volt led's i believe, if thats the brand of alarm you have..

the pen totals 4.5 volts. it's 3 1.5 volt batteries. i would wire it up with a 12 volt current. so i guess i just need to know what resistor you need to go from 12volts to 4.5 volts. jeff
