#14875, "LEGALITY of certain accessories"

I got a black light designed for the interior of a car (plugs into the lighter), and I wanted to mount it where a dome light would be. I've heard serveral theories. One says a black light is illegal inside the car what so ever. Another says it's fine if it's BEHIND the headrest. another says it can't be anywhere wher eyou can see the actuall light, just the lumination from a reflection off the interior (hidden under seats or something).

Another question:

How dark blue can the tint of headlights be? I've seen bulbs advertised as being DARK blue, instead of ultra white with a very light tint of blue, I want to know if I can get the blue bulbs for my headlights. I also have the dark blue 1156 reverse bulbs, which I
'm not sure but hella people have told me are illegal.

I'm thinking about getting some neon underbody and licenseplate, a couple fog lights, etc. Is there any restriction as to if it can be black light or must be neon? In Arizona I know licenseplate frames can't be neon, is it the same in CA? I want to get the winshield washer leds and license plate screw leds as well. Are these illegal in CA?

ANY info is welcome and much appreciated.

What's with all the lights, it's gonna look like a x-mas tree. j/k

Anyway almost anything illuminated like the license plate crap and washer LEDs is gonna attract cops at which point they'll give you a ticket for just about anything here is SoCal. My buddy has license plate LEDs and I HAD washer LEDs and never got any trouble for 'em. Just make sure they are WHITE and NOT red or blue, I had red turn signals and was given a ticket for "impersonating an emergency vehicle", I was driving a red 2 door Civic btw. LAME.

all that stuff is a waste of money and it does look good unless you have a lot of shit done to your car but this is my opinion and plus it is just a reason for cops to bother the shit out of you..

Check out your local laws on neon lighting. Here in MI, ANY neon visible is illegal, inside or out, when driving on the streets. In a parking lot, not driving is the only legal way. I used to think that not having red or blue was legal, but it wasn't. The laws very greatly between states, so call up your police dept and ask em...

Don't call the cops and ask, they will say anything is illegal if your local dept. is like the one here. I called b4 on some things I knew were legal, and they said that it was "too much of a distraction" and should not be put on the car. BLAH. WHO CARES!

from what i know, anything blue is bad. cops say that it's reserved for law enforcement vehicles here only. no one else can have blue. they said you can have red ONLY if it's on your taillights. As for Neons in the cab, they don't care around here as long as it doesn't look blue. If you have blue or red anywhere on your car, BUSTED. I got pulled over for my washer nozzles and they are white. The cop said they looked blue and it was up to the officer's discretion. So if one wants to be a prick, he can say hey those lights are blue and you are screwed
My 2 cents

As everybody knows, all States have different laws. No matter if tint, lights, or other things. I remember researching stuff on the internet once and I found a very good page that explained all the legalities in every state. For example, in Missouri your foglights have to be 1 foot or higher off the ground, there can't be more then 2 sets of lights in the front and they have to be white. I also read, that no matter in what state, the only colors you can have on the front are white and orange, and on the back only red and orange(and white for reverse). Search on the internet for law and legalities in transportation or something like that. I'm sure you can find something.

I just found this, it's just for Missouri, but I assume other States have similar pages

http://www.moga.state.mo.us/STATUTES/C307.HTM

Lighting stuff starts out from the 5th link down. I cut some stuff out.

1. Headlamps, when lighted, shall exhibit lights substantially white in color; auxiliary lamps, cowllamps and spotlamps, when lighted, shall exhibit lights substantially white, yellow or amber in color. No person shall drive or move any vehicle or equipment, except a school bus when used for school purposes or an emergency vehicle upon any street or highway with any lamp or device thereon displaying a red light visible from directly in front thereof.

1. Every motor vehicle and every motor-drawn vehicle shall be equipped with at least two rear lamps, not less than fifteen inches or more than seventy-two inches above the ground upon which the vehicle stands, which when lighted will exhibit a red light plainly visible from a distance of five hundred feet to the rear. Either such rear lamp or a separate lamp shall be so constructed and placed as to illuminate with a white light the rear registration marker and render it clearly legible from a distance of fifty feet to the rear. When the rear registration marker is illuminated by an electric lamp other than the required rear lamps, all such lamps shall be turned on or off only by the same control switch at all times.

3. Every new passenger car, new commercial motor vehicle, motor-drawn vehicle and omnibus with a capacity of more than six passengers registered in this state after January 1, 1966, when operated on a highway, shall also carry at the rear at least two approved red reflectors, at least one at each side, so designed, mounted on the vehicle and maintained as to be visible during the times when lighted lamps are required from all distances within five hundred to fifty feet from such vehicle when directly in front of a motor vehicle displaying lawful undimmed headlamps. Every such reflector shall meet the requirements of this chapter and shall be mounted upon the vehicle at a height not to exceed sixty inches nor less than fifteen inches above the surface upon which the vehicle stands.

4. Any person who knowingly operates a motor vehicle without the lamps required in this section in operable condition is guilty of an infraction.
