#14410, "T-Tops?"

My boy w/ a Supra is trying to convince me to get rid of the sunroof and wants me to get T-Tops like Supra's got. Any idea what kinda $ that would cost. Its just an idea but doesn't sound like a bad one cause Supras do look pretty phat w/ them off. I have a feeling its really expensive but if its not to bad I might look into it. Thanks

It has been done but it almost ruins your driveability because of all the flexing.

If frame wouldn't be as strong I have a hookup on roll cages this guy makes at his house. Really good work. Anyone still think that the frame could be a problem? Also where would my roof go when I wanna take it off? haha Del Sol's are lucky and I like the setup they have. My trunk has a big ass sub box in it but could it even fit in their w/o the box?

problem with chopping the top on our cars is the constant flexing of it. plus there is a problem with it leaking. you're looking at strengthing the doors, back, around the windshield and a few other places and that doesn't mean it will gurantee anything.

Thanks for the info. The flexibility does worry me, even if I do get a roll cage its still not 100% safe plus Im sure it will cost a lot. My friend got quoted $1000 for his Civic to get T-Tops and I assume it would be around the same for me. I just cant think where to put the roof/ hmm. I change my mind to much anyways w/ custom ideas. The idea of T-Tops sounded pretty phat but I really wanna find a pic first. Every idea I have thought of by myself I later find. My dual exhaust I had never seen until a couple months after I got it done although Im sure people have it. Same thing w/ S2000 tailights on my car.. Im sure someone has them and I recently saw it in a magazine but I thought up idea on own most of time. What ideas will I get next? Who knows

Where did your friend with the civic get quoted a 1000 from?? That seems pretty cheap to convert to a t-top.

Unless you own a spyder DONT do it, my friend. We dont' have the side support beams that the spyder has or the re-enforcements to stiffen it up. Plus the spyder has all those crossmembers on the bottom of the car as well to hold things up. Someone did a post a LONG time ago about drawing up some welded beams he was gonna put in his car to convert to a targa top. Anyone remember that dood?

oh also, I beleive that if you went chopping shit up in your car like that , most dealershits and people would consider the car unsafe when it comes to re-selling it or trading it in, etc., inspections...so be careful that no one will "total" the value out on your nice pretty little eclipse man. i wouldnt do it, yo. Dont total your vehicle out, if you can help it. emoji

I appreciate the concern Mike, but dont u think a roll cage would help the support problem a lot? I know someone who can do custom roll cages even w/ my back seat so I can strengthen the hood and sides. I probbaly wont do it but it sounds soo bad ass. Im more concern about finding a place to put the Targa since I got no trunk space. o well back to drawing board

yes, but a rollcage wont prevent your windows from blowing out from stress/strain on the window jambs emoji
