okay, 2 things.
first, since the LED don't have a very wide angle of brightness, you can do this to limited success. if you use a 3mm LED you can skip this, but if you use a 5mm LED, using the stock HVAC bulb mount thingy, just drill out a bit of the inside of the plastic bulb mount and the LED will slide down in there further. this will help since the bulb will set down in the housing further and present more of the "bright area" to the plastic peice in the HVAC control that dispurses thw light.
NOW, the second thing is if you have problems with the tic marks on the dials not being bright enough, you may be S.O.L. even with those 10000 mcd LEDs, it may still not be what you want. WHY?...well the dials have a clear plastic ring on the inside with an "arm" of clear plastic to catch the "dispursed" light. this arm dosen't make contact with the clear plastic of the HVAC control unit to make full use of the brightness. so you have light being wasted in the ambient ares of the inside of the HVAC controls!
otherwise the 3000mcd leds that i got from Rshack work well.
i have a disasemmbled HVAC control unit and can take some pics if anybody wants, or needs to see what i mean. lemme know

I dubled the brightness of my gauges by just aiming the light. It was dim, like in my pics on my site, but when I moved it, I doubled the light that came out almost to stock levels! Ill get some more pics
