I am looking to get the 3 open spots on my front bumper 'meshed', similar to how Eclipse804 has his done. Is that a thing people do at home and just by the materials, or is it something I should let a automotive place do? How much does it cost?
I say do it yourself. Most places won't even do it for you since its such a small job. Just buy some mesh for 10 to 15 bucks, and cut the pieces larger than the openings. Then slip them behind the openings, and fasten down with zip ties or glue or bondo, or anything else you can think of. Just try it out on the weekend and it should take you under an hour, at most two.
You can drill holes through the back of the bumper where you want to zip tie. I just used epoxy glue, but would say bondo is stronger if you are going to take off the bumper and do it.
I know you are going to hate this question but how do you take off the bumper??? I have the Chilton manual and I don't see bumper removal in it at all. Also, is there any mesh with thicker wire to use. The wire you used looks cool, great job with it. But I kinda want it more of the Grillcraft thickness and then have it powdercoated black at a place I used to work. Thanks, GSsport (Rob)
The front bumper has over 30 bolts/screws etc. ITs really hard to explain but first take off the five under the hood, then theres a few under the headlights that are REALLY hard to get off. You'll end up breaking the clips probably, which is what I did. Also, the mesh is just wherever you can find it. I'm sure some place will have the thicker mesh at a hardware store or something...good luck
